Glad to be able to share it . Bit dreary after a bit as I tried to catch Roger

Oil soaked rear left hand tyre caused wayward handling in practice but it got better as it went on so I left it there for the race (error Paddock Hill bend lap 2)

Still, it could have gone right :

£15 camera died in the process of recording this:

haha that would be a no then

i was close to going down that route, i allmost baught the manifold that one of the guys at burlen had made by dave dorrington so they could test run it on his mini about 4 or 5 years ago, never had enough till for the new carb though

its a great looking setup!

the vids are great too!

I took that picture at the season opener at Donnington, which I think was the last time Tim tried the SU. The car was run with HS4's for most of the season,

and later on Tim has been trying out a Weber. This was the set up at the final HSCC meeting at Silverstone.

We had a play with the DU6 as it produced so much more power and torque than the H4's I had fitted (111bhp) and the HS6's (113 bhp). I think it was a better bet than the HS6's as they were on the short manifold and I'm guessing the H4's work better due to where the butterfly is in relation to the engine. (HS= Horizontal Short). When we came to try the Weber later in the year it gave the same power as the DU6 (120)

The DU6 was produced originally for the Coventry Climax 1.5 litre FPF formula 2 engine to be used as pairs in an effort to take on Weber, but Morris who owned SU at the time were'nt too interested and so they only ever produced about 100. The only notable succes they ever achieved was on the Triumph TRS cars with the experimental Twin Cam TR engine in the mid 50's that won their class at Le Mans. They're strange in that they have individual shafts for each butterfly but a common shared float bowl with a damn great laquered cork float filling it

I tried the DU6 in practice at Donington but it wouldn't pull cleanly in mid range so we took it off and ran the H4's in the race. We hadn't blocked off one of the breathers and it honked out fuel in use on the track , so if anyone wants to fund a test day , we can give it a back to back test. As it was designed to work as pairs it will always be an uphill struggle to work out what would be a good set up.

The enclosed pic is stolen from elsewhere and shows the general layout when used as twins (clamped to a plank of wood). The trumpets are not Weber but were specially made brass ones but they wouldn't fit the Min without surgery to the bulkhead so the short ones were used on my car. Best bit was when we first started it without the blanking plate in and the speedo dropped out of the way I could see the dashpots going up and down like good'uns! I did put a pic of the carb with brass trumpets in my bit in the mag but don't have one to hand

i used to run a 1500 FPF powerd cooper bob tail, it was a beautiful little motor but you had to have youre thinking head on whirlst building it. i was amased how they even took it out to 2.5! i even hurd of a 2.7! however i dudnt know they ran DU6's , it kind of makes sense now because i did see an odd manifold that i assumed was a sand cast weber manifold but thinking back was a DU6 manifold going by the flanges.

I have a copy of COVENTRY CLIMAX RACING ENGINES by Des Hammill and there are a couple of pictures in the book of the "SU"'s on 1.5 litre FPF experimental engines.
