Corgi Mini Cooper 'S' 1967 Monte-Carlo Winner replica

As someone who has a large collection of original Corgi models that I had as a child from the 1960's boxed up in my loft, (My dad owned a toy shop at the time!) I'm interested to know if the many Corgi replicas below now being produced are affecting the values of the original models?

It does not matter how many times Corgi reproduce anything, the originals still command good money.

A couple of examples of the Monte Mini that have sold this year

Are the Corgi replicas created from the original tooling (I would surprised if it was all kept at the end of final production) or is new tooling reverse engineered from an example of an original model?

I have a mint original corgi monte mini, so bought one of the new ones on that £10 deal to compare them.
And was quite surprised with the accuracy, only small differences like wrong rivet underneath, and no corgi marking on the tyres, can post up images to show them side by side if anyone's interested.

I believe Corgi or whatever it was named in later yrs was Taken over by Hornby which use various chinese factories who are very good at reverse engineering for model railways.

I'm not a collector but I was given the Italian Job set with the bus and three Minis about twenty years ago, sold it on Ebay for £120 which surprised me.
Also sold a couple of 1/18 scale Cooper S models, Kyoto or something like that. Buyer came back complaining as the paint had orange peel on one panel. I just said it was a realistic copy of the original, what did he expect

My guess is that they created new castings using an old as a starting point.

They have been quite a few re-issues of the submarine over the years, sort of every time there is a Beetles anniversary. There was one issued in the 1980's which is becoming sort after and has a mint and boxed value of around £50.

If you are thinking of buying an original be very careful, as they can be restored easily and there are reproduction boxes to be had. A restored item is only worth slightly more than a fair play worn example.

Hornby did buy up then name and transferred everything to China. But then a few years ago they reopened their factory near Canterbury for R&D purposes and returns. they also bought up the Lledo company which they use to make their 1/43rd scale classic car range.

I think this new ones do not affect the price of the 60ies models.
Someone who is prepared to pay lots af money for an old model from the 60ies, does not want a copy.

The problem with these copies is that you have to look closer, before buying one, to be sure, if old or repro.

Good job indeed.....otherwise bidding a small fortune for a 'Works' Mini based on the auctioneers description could be a very risky investment!

I worked for Active Marketing in Swansea when I first came here, Corgi were a client and I did concept cars for them and backgrounds like streets to go in the boxes. They had a huge collection of old mouldings stored away.

Andy, Is there any chance that you designed the box and background insert for my car, the Corgi Liverpool Police car. I note that unlike the Corgi monte mini's, my SKD 'limited edition' ('limited' to about 6 million I suspect) model, still boxed and like new still hovers around the £6 quid mark. That's infamy for you!

Re the nice little you-tube clip. Very nice. The paint sprayer in the clip must have spent the same amount of time and paint, spraying my 2000 RCS at the factory

Well, I'll be blowed... I thought that I had one of those monte minis! Yep, still in box marked 6shillings and 9pence or 6/9d for you pre-decimal kids out there. spare wheels and tyres plus slip of paper, still boxed but all sealed up. In a box with that other rarity.....the cop Cooper S!

I did an awful lot of very similar ones Peter, but don't recall that sorry, probably before my time... but when was it made?
