Too much repro stuff in that engine bay and detailing not up to scratch.

Badging front and back is dodgy to say least.

On face of it a very nice looking, overpriced S, but look further and it’s not particularly well detailed .

Is the front badge wrong...seen quite a few original cars with the high badge look?

Might not be Nick, but it certainly doesn’t look nice, mostly the S sitting pretty much on top of the main badge.

Apart from the front S badge being upside down I actually think the badge spacing on the bonnet is about right. The S sits very close to the main badge (I’d guess 5mm max) on all the original cars I’ve ever seen and contemporary photos. The S floating up high is pretty common on restored cars, usually a sign the bonnet’s either been replaced or S’d up more than anything. This is correct factory badge placing as far as I’ve ever seen (this is not the car in the sale advert) :

That badge spacing looks far better and correct (as you say Pete) than the eBay advert one. The eBay one being upside down probably doesn't help its look either !!

If there's one thing I hate (well two actually) its incorrectly spaced or wonky badges and wonky number plates !!

I'll just leave that here in case anyone is interested... Can't find the reference but a few months back I'm sure this Red 1959 Mk1 Mini Austin Seven was listed for sale at £19,999 as the '6th mini'. It was in quite good nick but the seller got really shirty as the listing was ridiculed for being a reshell and there were lots of detail errors not right for a '59. Knew I had a note somewhere about an identical car that once resided in the same Cul-de-sac road in Christchurch as the one for sale and quite by chance I've stumbled across it - That registration was AOT182A which was registered in May 1960 and presumably re-registered again in the 1980's. Question is, would that then match the age of the shell ? (Light blue touch paper...)

That's interesting. The registration number AOT 182A is still current and registered to a Red 1960 Mini according to the DVLA database. Not been taxed or MOT'd for about 6 years.
