good quality chrome arch trim ..or lack of it
where can you get good chrome arch trim
both the flat type amd the fluted "deluxe" type
seems lots have a " silver" rather than a "chrome" finish
i know some stupid "eco" ruling a bit ago stopped the chrome finish
what do u guys use on your mk1 etc
where u get it from..samples ive had seem really, really bad

I have used the "Heritage" stuff from Minispares for a long time now. It takes some fitting but is generally OK.

Don't know if they do the standard, I suspect not.

I also bought mine - the fluted deluxe stuff - from Minispares fairly recently and was perfectly happy with the result - after taking the usual precautions and care regarding fitting.

Re: good quality chrome arch trim ..or lack of it
Believe me I tried the genuine fluted trim from my local Rover dealer, Minispares and my local motor panel supply company . I have tried lube , running it through a bucket of boiling water prior to attempting to fit it as well as leaving it in the paint oven at work whilst its in use then running the car in to try and fit the stuff........ None of it worked.
The best place to buy it from is Phoenix supplies . They attend most of the major Mini shows , cant miss there stall as they have reels of arch trim , screen rubbers , screen inserts , door seals etc . Sure they have a website.
Everytime I buy some I ask if they get it from there usual supplier , then I know I can...........................
Literally offer it up and push it on , no problems
You cant say that about the other stuff available .

Minispares works fine, left straightening for 6 months before I needed it on a lenght of angle then I used a hot air gun on low backed off about 8 -10" and don't force a curve out of it.

Re: good quality chrome arch trim ..or lack of it
I really rate the Minispares stuff. The biggest myth seems to be this idea that you must soak in hot water, use a hair drier, leave in the sun, bake overnight etc.
Having tried 3 sides worth, realised that the stuff has a tipping point where it melts to the point it loses its memory and I cocked it up every time.
Spoke to Gary at Minispares and he advised to ignore all of this and put on the rear arch. When it gets to the radius above the radius arms just take 2 small flat bladed screwdrivers and gently lever the back edge of the trim away from the lip about an inch apart, push the trim home and voila your trim is in place! The only caveat is your sill edges cannot be seam welded or have big blobs of weld as this will impede the trim fit.
I have fitted to 4 complete trims since without a hitch.
Hope you find thisa more succesful route. Cheers. Mark

I've used minispares stuff last 4 or 5 times.. I stuffed the 1st set up by forcing it too much.. Ever since my wifes Hairdryer does the trick 'fairly' easily. Dont heat up the same spot for too long.. Just move it up and down a section at a time.
