Hi 251,
Thank you for the insight.
I am torn between keeping it to use to produce a mould or having it machined to use in the future.
Could you give me an indication of the likely cost of machining?
I have 2 earlier type heads on my 999cc engines already so don't need it at the moment .....what would you advise.
thanks tp

Cannot see why a setup for a Mini should be so much different than any other 4-cyl engine... or perhaps I'm missing something?
Even during the 70s the Lucas was expensive. The high pressure fuel pump alone was in the region of £600+ in those days and could be ruined easily by the smallest amount of swarfe or debris. The alloy transistor ignition pack box with the coil sticking out the top was £400 exchange.

Trevor,

Ever thought about giving Dean at Weslake a call? They are in the process of reproducing these heads and could be interrested in your head or perhaps offer some help machining it to the original specs...
Cheers,

Having been "intimately involved" with Dean at the outset of the Weslake Heritage 8 Port head project. I wouldn't advise contacting him at the moment, as hopefully he's concentrating on actually supplying the heads I sold for him 18 months ago!

Mark beat me to it , not much point in investing in a set of casting patterns if Weslake are remaking them .

I have seen that head before , it was for sale at stanford hall years ago on the Mini seven stand .

Email me direct at orx77@yahoo.co.uk .

Do you have any pictures of your engine,s or car to show us ?

Just reread the first post. As the 8 port head was for Gp5 saloon car racing, why would it need homologating, as iirc, the head as free. Arden ran their own alloy head paid for by Steve Neal and it wouldn't have been homologated by the factory. Gp5 also allowed heel arch extensions up to 2" and this caused an arguement over the mini as the front edge at the bumper as wider than 2", but did not extend out further than 2" from the widest bit of the car. It amuses me, all these suppliers with mini arches in different groups. Gp7 was CanAm sports cars like MaClaren M8s and Lola T70s.

As for Lucas fuel injection, it had only appeared in F1 in 1963.

Amazing amount of freedom in Gp5 in Europe....Fiat 500's especially.
Both my cars were Gp5 in 1968 and ran 2" Arch extensions measured from the vertical section of the a panel/wing face.
One of them also ran in BTCC in 1969 with all the body mods but at 1275cc towards the end of the year not the original 999cc.
Some current Gp2 ones being sold now are 2" as well !!!
Thanks tp
