That was the day after the Gold Cup, wonder if that's why there are no other UK Minis ? Not seen that footage before Paul, thanks for posting.

Jean-Louis Marnat !!
Pluto should tell us a bit more about this event, and what must be the car he restored last year.
Thanks for pointing out to me this footage I didn't know !
Cheers,
Etienne

Re: 700 HCG
Fantastic!
Two races at Montlhéry near Paris.
The first race was the Coupe de l'USA (Union Sportive Automobile) 15 days before the second event.
Marnat with the smoke grey 1071 "PL 75" led the race but failed and the Belgian Carl Smet 1071, also smoke grey with CCC wheels won the race. We also could see the Surf blue 1071 of Paul Gonthier another belgian driver.... and the ex-Francis Tomas Jag mk2!
For the the second race, Marnat had painted his "PL 75" with Pluto Racing Team colors: dark green with stripes on roof. He only made the third time in pratice behind two works Fiat-Abarth. With the wet track, Marnat was uncatchable and Rosinski - french GT champion in 63 - was second ten seconds behind in the Abarth.
Marnat made few other races with PL 75 - Zolder ETC for example - and then sold the cat to another driver in the center of France. It was sold again in 65 and no news since... Marnat took again his famous "550 EN 89" for the rest of the 64 season, à 1293 engine under the bonnet. At the end, he was french champion in 1300 cc Touring car class.
All that from my old memory and possibly with little mistakes...

Re: 700 HCG
Just to share some brilliant footage, but this does not mean I would hi-jack this thread - done anyway ...
Coupe de l'Union Sportive Automobile 1964 :
Carl SMET :
Jean-Louis Marnat :
Paul Gonthier :
Coupe de Printemps 1964 (If I am wrong, Pluto will correct me) :
Jean-Louis Marnat - same car as previously - on the outside : he will be making a very good start, watch the footage !
Getting easily through the chicane, while leading by a large margin :
To be it noted for our fellow french enthusiasts : Marnat's wheels were indeed painted green ...
And finally, something I had never seen in motion before : getting out the "anneau" at full speed without having to negotiate the chicane laterly added in or just before the straight :

Re: 700 HCG
Etienne, it was the "Prix de Paris".
These green wheels... remind me of something!
We could notice that the Carl Smet 1071 was one of the VDS team (count Van der Straten team). That team was composed of 3 smoke grey 1071 (drivers : Smet, Wallmann and Trosch)... There are rumors telling that the engine of one that cars is today under the bonnet of a french Cooper!

Re: 700 HCG
The driver of the Almond Green (with dark top 1071), at the "Prix de Paris" is Richard Dassonville.
Dassonville was a well known Alfa GTA driver in France between 65/67.
He remembered well just few years ago that his Cooper S was prepared by Speedwell in UK !
He was also the boss of the french division of Metro Goldyn Mayer!
