Like BMW previously with classic 'Mini' related trademarks, now Volkswagen AG, of Wolfsburg, Germany, has asserted its right to the trademark ‘Beetle’ and is serving notice on many of the classic Beetle companies using their trademarks:

at the end of the day, its their trademark and if people are using it without authorisation (or not paying a licencing fee) them they have every right to assert their claim to it.
