reverse rims

found some odd wheels today, early reverse rims??

there 5" reverse rims but with centers as per a normal mini wheel. with slots around the center and not a round disk with the holes in as per the norm.

the extra 1/2" width is like having the front half of a normal reverse rim a tad deeper.

anyone seen them before? i know you can get 5" reverses but ive never seen any with std centers.

ill stick some pics on later, pretty crusty though.

Back in the day, widened steel rims were the norm... and often pretty much home made with a physical integrity that you might not find acceptable today Just cut the rim around its circumference and weld in a band of the desired width. I just don't remember alloy wheels being around when I had my S (LMF602C where are you?) in the UK in 1970. And, of course, suitable wide tyres weren't around either. I think I remember 145 michelin ZXs being 5 pounds each.

They could well be weld outs. Some were much better than others, they have all of course been tarred with the same brush nowadays.

when i think of banded wheels, my mate tim has a sprite with 10" banded steelies on. proper 70's
