MOWOG stencil on SUbframe
When I pcik up my old wet subframe, I found it was not always true they put the MOWOG stencil upside down!
Sometimes it stays the normal position! (I bet it was not built on Friday!)

Here is the original stenciled "MOWOG" on my S, saved from sandblasting and blended in to the new paint.

The displacers were restored (by me) and the sump guard is a genuine BMC one, shown in the parts book.

Re: MOWOG stencil on SUbframe
Just got a normal upside down MOWOG stencil on mine.
The sumpguard looks like a Moke one. My S came with the same type sumpguard.

Hi Al,
Do you have some pics of the sumpguard on its own, before install?
Thanks!
Ted

The sump guard in the picture is a standard factory Saloon sump guard (21A 1474) ;

The Moke was fitted with the more robust "RAF" or 13 hole type, like the one used on 33 EJB.

Al, how did you restore the unions? They look new on the photo and I settled for a wire brush plus some silver wheel paint but was never very happy with that. Cheers

I gave mine a good sandblast then took them to the local zinc platers and they replated them still on the end of the hoses.

Hi Ted,
I don't think I have but I could take some one day when it's off.

My plater man managed to suspend the displacer and dangle the ends in the respective baths. I don't think it was at all difficult and they do look new.rolesyboy wrote:Al, how did you restore the unions? Re: MOWOG stencil on SUbframe
When I had my subframe out, I tacked some nuts on the inside, much easier to drop off and refit now, even if it is a bit naughty !!

Thanks for the sumpguard pics!
So, the rail is part of the sumpguard?
Is it just fit on the inside of the front subframe and sandwich it with guard?
Thanks
Ted

Re: MOWOG stencil on SUbframe
Hi Ted,
Holes have to be drilled in the subframe and the bolts in the strips protrude through the frame and guard, nuts go on the outside. There is not much room to get your hand up inside to feed the bolts through so that is why I did a slight alteration.
