is it acceptable to take a few thou off the phosphor bronze primary gear shim to get correct clearance..as ive used up all my thinner shims on previous builds

ive took 3 thou off one and seems ok,,anybody else done this?

I'd just find a worn C clip ;)

I don't think I've ever had a "tight" primary gear.

i wrecked half a dozen c clips
seems some primary gears have more "meat" on the block side than others,,

this one was mega tight

shaved a few thou off the washer and i got it ok,,,

gotta admit ,,never had this before,,they usually have too much end float :D

I just used wet 'n' dry (1200), engine oil and a the bed of my lathe (or a sheet of glass).

im a ruff arse.. i used 180 then 400 ,,600,1200 then 2000 grit,,lol
for my sins,i own a 1957 wolsleley 1500

i managed about 5 thou,but i got it pretty straight,,
i was chuffed
