"According to widespread reports in the press, Prime Minister Boris Johnson is planning to move the ban the sale of new petrol and diesel-engined cars from the old cut-off from 2035 to 2030. That’s following a move back in February, when it moved from the previous goalpost of 2040.
So, all of a sudden it looks like the end of new petrol and diesel-engined cars is looming into view rather sooner than we all thought when this concept was first floated not that long ago. Just to put this deadline into perspective, if we’re talking 1 January 2030, that’s a little over nine years away."

Can agree Yes Save the Planet .. but not by the actions of National & Worldwide politicians who have their own agenda that does not fit within the reality of every day people.
Anyway i take this 2030 ban within the UK as a pre-warning to sell off my Classic Cars before they all become worthless.

At our age, I suggest we now invest in tartan red electric mobility scooters with white roofs to protect us from the elements as we compete in our local area "grand prix" terrorising all the locals as we use the lanes provided for vulnerable "road" users.

I think that the fear of us not being able to drive petrol cars is a misconception. It's the ban on new cars sold being petrol or diesel. I doubt they will ban petrol cars off the road at 2030. I have also heard that all new cars will end up automatic very shortly too. Our classics will see us all out. One thing to hope is that petrol may end up cheaper.

I think the price of petrol will go through the roof, and the number of stations will drop as an inevitable consequence of a falling market.

Should probably add that the inter web down the pub has proven that cow flatulence causes more problems than car emissions.
Also, after university I spent a further year in liaison with a site in Hawaii and I can tell you that someone will carry on selling petrol but it will not be cheap.

Also worth noting that this radical shortening of the timescales has come, wierdly, at a time when the incoming POTUS has a very different view on environmental matters than the (should be) outgoing fellow.

Far be it from me to suggest that England's (i.e. not Scotland's!) PM would ever flip-flop to whatever tune he thinks needs to be played without the first idea or care about the practicalities and/ or realities, as he knows he'll be long gone by the time any date he suggests hoves into view.

He might as well say we will all be flying around on electric cows by January for all he cares..........

I'm not too worried that we wil lbe able to enjoy our cars for a while yet, though clearly change is coming.

I have in my mind's eye the many classic car owners on their nightly wanderings over meadows, collecting cow farts in huge plastic sacks to be made into petrol in their illicit cellar refinery.

Doh! Gotta figure out how to make jute gas tight, as plastic bags are going to be banned by then too

Going electric will not make a bit of difference to the worlds emisions as our so called scrap petrol and diesel cars will end up in third world country's being used . It's already happening ! ..... .But lets face it the wind doesn't blow past the M25 ... kenn

So why not Power the A Series with Hydrogen .. remove Both Fuel Tanks & strap a Hydrogen Tank in the Boot that will give the Mk1 a 50/50 weight balance .. this Hydro Conversion will be a "nice little earner" for Minispares should they take up this suggestion.

I always thought the ban was on purely petrol and diesel cars, meaning hybrids would still be allowed to be sold new. Not to mention it will be ages before all fossil fuel powered cars become obsolete. Most hybrids can only do very very short distances on purely electric, and I do wonder when the lightbulb moment on just how polluting and damaging the lithium and cobalt mining is... I'm hoping for synthetic fuels better controls on the far more polluting things than cars (global logistics for a start)

The food bank in Carlisle is complaining they can't give some food away because people don't know how to cook it
I suppose these electric cars will be brought from the Far East on the massive ships that pollute the planet more
with one voyage than all the cars in the U.K. does in a year
I wonder how far an electric ship could travel before it needs to call in for a few months to car it's battery
The 4 year old Nissan Note tested by Top Gear had a range of 23 miles, not good for a trade in
How are these batteries going to be disposed of ?
I've been told the sourcing of materials for the manufacture these batteries isn't very eco friendly
I have a friend who runs his Allegro on LPG maybe that's an alternative
I'll be 82 in 2030 so it won't will be a problem for me
