My Future Cooper s mk1 project
I found this car on ebay november last year. It was located in Bristol. The chap I bought off had already imported it him self. Its a August 1965 LHD Cooper s mk1 from the usa.
I gave the guy a message usual ebay message. Have you got a buy it now ? His reply was "Throw a number at me "
I throw a number at him we spoke on the phone and I went to look and the deal was done.
Now its a pretty scary project. Andrew1967 This could be as bad as your car!
Its on the to do list but I will be putting it off as long as possible due to how bad it is.
I will be needing a Donor mk3 shell to cut bits out to repair it. Its the roof pillar at the front on the windscreen going in to the roof/ corner which will be the hardest part to restore.
I will let the pics do the talking!
Thanks
Peter

Amazing isn't it how some cars can be so good in some areas and SO bad in others!
Good luck with it whenever you do start your restoration

Well you said it was bad Peter but at least you have a boot floor
Looks a great project though.
I might be able to help with a few sections when you get a start.

That doesn’t look too bad. At least it looks like no ones bodged it up before.
Mine had 4 layers of metal on the rear subframe mounts! All welded down from the top of the pocket.

I've got a 69 Mini with a 1046, Cooper Head and a four on the floor.

Re: My Future Cooper s mk1 project
I remember seeing this one on Facebook the other year.
This picture was possibly taken at the Arfons farm in Akron Ohio years ago.
Have you seen any evidence of an Arfons ownership?
Art Arfons was a Land Speed Record racer. His vehicle The Green Monster. I have no idea if there is a connection or not, worth digging into.

A lot of work, but an honest starting point by the looks of it Peter. Be really interested to see how it progresses

It isn't for sale for £12,000 though is it? That is the required start bid but there is also a reserve set isn't there.

Re: My Future Cooper s mk1 project
I suggest you read the listing and see what the vendor is offering and £ 12k actually buys you, a totally scrap body shell, incomplete engine, cracked gearbox case, almost 100% of whats survived requires replacing.

It seems the part of the car made of paper is the most valuable these days

But as HOY shows, one man's scrap bodyshell is another man's project. If you look at the price of restored Mk1 Cooper S's it is not out of the ball park nowadays.
