Admire you for keeping on even when one after another unit blows up!

Thought shock absorbers where a big no-no on a hydro car?

Oh I've read it a couple of times, and forgot about it 'til I read that Dr S was going to fit a set.
Thats been on this mini before?
Will continue the debate in the other thread.

Plan is to dry build this weekend. See how it fits with the hydro and the clutch master.

I’ve got a shaved manifold (no tittering at the back pls!)
So I want to see how it fits over the cooper freeflow.

If it’s bad fit then I think a request to maniflow to make a custom hs2 manifold that clears the freeflow will be in order.

Then it’s just the job of sorting out the filtration on the carb. I’m torn here as to how to go.

The inner child in me says bonnet scoop aka the black and yellow mini sprint who’s plate I forget.

Or the more adult version would be a version of a K&N torque tube.

Finally we have the lottery for what power we’ll make. As it was we have 10.2:1 Cr, 32*28mm valves, 1046cc’s, 997 cooper cam. With twin hs2 on k&n cones and single box rc40. Making mid to high sixties / low seventies depending on rolling road.

I’m hopeful that with the charger at 7psi we’ll be able to pull 80bhp with a bit more torque.

The supercharger kit looks great! Here’s 2 potential options off the shelf if your manifold doesn’t work

Cheers Timmy that adaptor could be interesting. That’s just not something I’ve seen in the uk market. It’s there a reason that you keep the HS2’s on a bigger manifold in Aus? Lack of hs4 / hif38’s?

I’ve honestly never seen anyone use one! Later cars did have HS4 carbs, so they are around if people wanted a single carb upgrade for an HS2

I guess if you wanted a new exhaust and didn’t want to cut down a standard manifold to get an HS2 stock cast manifold it might help?

Bit of a hiatus on this. For no go reason other than life getting in the way. Well possibly the fact I bought a gretsch guitar and disappeared into a rabbit hole of learning stone Roses songs...
Image
Anyway I’ve been chatting to a chap called Andrew on manifolds and I happened to see this on eBay
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/373251252250
It’s a janspeed manifold but it seems to have mounts for an H4 (also HS2 pattern right?) as well as an HS4/HIF.
I’m hoping as it’s aftermarket it’ll clear the cooper freeflow. Then it’s just finding out how far from the standard carb location it is. I imagine... it’s essentially in the same location as stock so we are golden for mounting up. But we’ll see!

Some progress today the janspeed manifold turned up. I’ve used the two nuts method to move the studs from the angle mounts to the HS2 / H4 mounts.

Head on the bench and we’ve had a play.

It sits nicely should clear the cooper freeflow.... but it’s 10” from block height to the top of the charger.

I think this could be tight.. anyone got any measures of how much height from block to charger is it on a 850 manifold? Or even better the actual shorrock manifold.

Hi Dr S
Have you a block to use for the out of car mock up? As I found it good to have the head, block, and charger all built up together.

I'll see if I can measure mine next week

I’ve had a look see and getting the spare block out is a right faff and I’ve not got any head studs.

I think it’s time to bite the bullet and get the rad out and the carbs off. Looks like the janspeed manifold is putting us about 15mm back from the cast one and perhaps 10mm higher. I’m going to need pretty much 10inches from block height. I can see having to chop out the bonnet brace if it’s close.

Looking at the charger, does the rib change shape on the top? Or have mine been worn down by a rubbing bonnet before :-)

I can lend you a 1275 block and head studs if it would help?

Why don't you make a custom Inlet manifold wich exactly suits your needs?
I promise i won't buy another MkI...

Because that is currently beyond my skills :-) I can get maniflow to do one. But that involves taking a car to Salisbury. Not easy from Cumbria.

The other challenge is chasing the unicorn of what I actually need. From lots of photos I see the shorrock seems to sit in very close to the rocker box so it’s probably shorter than the cast iron one. I had planned to carve Dow a cast one and a mate has been doing that. We’ve gone through the bottom trying to clear the cooper freeflow.

Hence buying the janspeed one. Come the weekend I’m just going to start stripping and fitting I think. The time for science and contemplation is past. Now it’s time for actual facts :-)

Cheers Graham. I’m going to use the motor in it. Given we are locked in it seems pointless keeping it running in case we can get down the dolly blue for a Saturday morning!

Got stuck into it today. Stripped the rad and pulled the twin carbs out.

No chance it’s going to fit on the janspeed manifold, and I can’t see how the cast one can fit either.

I’ll get a proper measure on in the day or two. But the janspeed manifold is probably an inch to far back and too high.

I can’t for the life of me see how anyone gets the cast manifold to fit with a cooper freeflow.

Looking here .... https://www.maniflow.co.uk/index.php?vi ... oduct=1098
it suggests the small bore lcb may give better clearance? Looks like it drops down much quicker than the freeflow?

I might have to pull the exhaust manifold and exhaust off and see if it’ll line up with just the cast inlet.

Once that’s done we can see about a chat with maniflow!
