Most glass shops I've dealt with won't entertain cutting holes that close to the edge of the pane and laminated will tend to crack around holes where there's compression, ie a window catch.

the place i use dont have any issues, neither did the place the mark used in leeds.

i guess its more a case that a lot of these shops dont want to do anything out the ordinary in case they get some come back - its elf and saftey innit........

Simple, cut the hole in a larger bit of glass and then cut the glass to size. :mrgreen:

I'll agree with Pete laminated glass doesn't absorb impacts like toughened especially on moving panels and I fitted several Montego est hrw that cracked from the wiper hole and were even supplied with a split from said hole before they were even fitted

why would you want to put glass in a lightweight door anyway ????

I wasn't going to use the car for competition so lightweight for me isn't an issue, just get get the look on the Mk1 replica.

M Machine offer a lower adapter rail to do this conversion, part # 13.15.00.05

2 x Door conversion plates
2 x chrome inner rails
2 x lower rubber channels
2 x upper rubber door frame channels
4 x MK1 catches
1 x Fitting Instructions

Is it just me or does £252 for these few items not seem an awful lot. :shock: :shock: Not even any windows !!!!

Yea balls to that - p4p do the conversion kit for 210 + VAT, the parts on there own only come to around 135.00 + VAT, I did mine myself and got the same results

it only took me a full day to figure it all out although i did ruin one of the lower SS rails trying to figure out how to cut it down to fit the doors, only took me a full day of trial and error to get all the part modified to fit a mk3 door and theres no way id pay someone else 35 quid a door to modify all the parts, supply a full set of instructions, pack everything and make a buck while there at it..Had to make the rails from M-Machine fit as well which is a right ball ache

cheeky good for nothing companies

You dont even need overpriced polycarb either the stuff from B&Q that they use in a greenhouse is just fine

Ah I see it now. What you're saying is that £324 to include plastic windows is far too expensive & B. & Q. can do it all for much cheapness. :twisted:

Good thinking really as for that sort of money I can also get a greenhouse or two. :roll:

my mate dan runs ACW plastics and ive had a lot of my mini windows done by him, cheap perspex scratches easily and isnt that great, i would pay the extra money and get some polycarb windows.

Interesting that P4P charge so much money for all those parts together, has anyone got any photos of the work involved to the door for the bottom slider?

you really really need to get your facts right before you come on here- perspex actually has a harder surface than polycarbonate and does not scratch as easy- if you want a scratch resistant polycarbonate you need to use lexan margard or makrolon AR.

how do i know because i have been a plastics fabricator since 1986 and i own plastics 4 performance.

we buy all the bits in , we dont get them discounted , one of our guys takes 30-40 mins to modify all the parts, wrap them back up and by the time wages and stuff is paid we make about 30 quid profit.

so mr plastic business expert - what would you advise to make them from and how much would you charge ??
