The JANSPEED Mini

Post by JC T ONE »

Hi all,
as some of you know, did I restore my W&P/JANSPEED Mini, 5 years ago.

This was done in the "before I got a computer age" 2006/2007 .
So I thought I would make a thread to show how I (we) did it.

Here she is in October 2006.

The car was found early 1999, and bought 11 months later = winter 1999/2000.

Hello to you two, and welcome 8-)

Yes to the first question, my car has a JANSPEED turbo conversion.

It spent more than 2 months in Salisbury, and every thing was rebuilt/altered by JS,

suspension/subframes/brakes/fuelsystem/gearbox/bodywork/etc, they had the wiringloom

remade, but that was done "out in town" by a local auto electrics garage, so was the respray.

I would love to see pictures of your JS cars Jon 8-) not many around anymore.

Had some sad news today, my cars first owner passed away in her sleep last night, after a long period with bad health.

Unfortunally did I never get to show her the car.
She knew it had been found/restored, and I send her the first feature article (Mini mag).
But it would have been nice to have shown her the car.

I have recently found out, that it was a very private thing I had found/restored, as it was a birthday gift from her husband.
It was only sold off, becourse they moved to New York in 1980/81.
When I met them in the summer 2000, they were very surpriced to hear that the little car had survived,
and were pleased to hear, that I was going to restore it.

Hello Pete,

Yes it has always been very interesting to own this car.

It sort of tells its own story, if I had a Penny for each person
who told me a story regarding this car, I would be a rich man.

No matter where I have been with the car, someone always come up, and start talking about it,
and the good old days, when it was driven by chauffeur.

All todays newspapers have the story, about her untimely death on the cover.
I gave up reading, as there were too much, I would post a picture, but my camera is out

Hi Rich,

Yes I saw it, and I agree, that was a VERY low amount of money, he let it go for :o

A genuine Cooper S engine & gearbox, built by the "Cream de la Cream"
that alone would cost 8000 to build (atleast) if not more ? .

Then you add a complete MOT,ed car with S brakes & complete JanSpeed suspension etc.
--- I would never have sold that car for so little.

On the other hand you could say it was strong money for a nicely modded early 70's Mini 1000.

This filler is a bit on the thick side too, I think the car had run under the back of a lorry at some time, there is a big groove up the panel to the screen and I found lots of glass under the carpet, its about 15-20mm deep. It created a white out in the garage when I put a rotory wire brush on it and had to stop.

Hi Pete,

WOAW that was SOME amount of plastic  thought my car was bad, but you join the club

I also stopped with the grinder on my scuttle panel, when all was covered with White dust

This picture is taken October / early November 2006.

I am testing the grill I had, its the wrong one (Victor) and I knew W&P used a Ventora grill.

I had searched a long time for one, but only found the Victor, later I found the Ventora, but this was in a BAAD state,
so in order to have a small chance to get the car ready for IMM 2007, it was decided to use the Victor grill.
