No 28, Prinz Leopold von Bayern, Wooding Mini Cooper S, Winner of the race!

Dark haired man next to him at the finish: Dieter Baatz, Technical director Wooding-Engineering, Hamburg. Later worked with Jörg Obermoser on the Warsteiner-TOJ sports cars.

Team-Owner: Donald Wooding

Race manager: Richard Newton (later founder of Newton Commercial)!

In 1971 Team Wooding went with Ford and won many races with the BDA in the German Touring Car Championship with Driver Christian Schmarje.

I found the same site and posted a few shots from it about a year ago. There are some excellent pics on there

Here's a link to the index page. After clicking you will need to translate the page and then have a spare couple of months to wade your way through. There are race programs, rally stuff, hill climbs, ETCC, Motorbikes, pretty much anything motorsport related that happened in Austria from the 1930s to the 1980s

Thx. I knew it was "Poldi" the winner of the race, but great to get some additional information on the team's members. In parallel to the photos I try to gather info on the Minis and their drivers (and co-pilots).

That's exactly what I am doing - at least I have the advantage not to have to translate it :D . Also trying to index as many drivers and cars as possible (Mini only of course)

Ouch! The driver named himself "elefant" in the entry list - aparently like the literal one in the porcelaine shop

Just as a related footnote one of the TOJ cars is owned by my neighbour, nice car and eligible for Le Mans Classic.

Does anyone have or can point me to photos of the BSCC for 1964? I have a hair-brained scheme to build models of all Cooper S cars raced that year. I have all entries for each of the 8 rounds and some photos of the popular cars already.

Any assistance would be Gratefully received.

Ouch!
These was taken by me in the Brands Hatch paddock in the late 1970's.
These very quick green Longman short-stroke 850cc Mini's were driven by Neil Dineen and Crouch.

What’s the carb set up on the Longman car? If it’s a IDA it just seems to be too far forward . Any thoughts ?

Hi Kees....I took those Longman Mini photos at Brands Hatch in the late 1970's, see Mk1 Forum link below.....Mab :D
1980's Mini Racing Photos:-
viewtopic.php?p=148324#p148324

I also posted these photos on the Ten Tenths Motorsport forum some time back and a recent reply from Mike Parker as quoted below has added some interesting info on the Longman built 850cc short stroke engine as used by Neal Dineen and Peter Crouch:-

"Hi there
My name is Mike Parker. I was racing in the late 60's/ early 70's. Triplex, Osram GEC special saloon car chmpionships etc etc.The longman short stroke engine that was used by Neal Dineen and Peter Crouch was in fact my short stroke engine. It was built by Richerd Longman. It had a Gordon Allen billet steel crank, with from memory a 51mm stroke running on plus 100 thou cooper s bore. Unfortunately the engine did not work well so I blueprinted the camshafts (649's) I got a perfect camshaft on the sixth one and even then had to havr the keyway remachined to ensure the cam was perfectly timed . I also had Chris Tyrell do the head for me from memory it was 11cc. I also fitted electronic ignition. To cut a long story short the car was written off on the first lap of the championships paddock at Brands. The light weight shell was absolutely amazing. I had the shell built on a chassis rig and the front bulkhead raised 100mm which in effect lowered the car 100mm lower than any other car, the floor pan was removed and replaced by a SHS platform chassis clad in 26 g aluminium The rear subframe was removed and replaced with a rose jointed beam axle. The car had a 54 ton steel roll cage in it with side intrusion bars. You could lift the back of the car up with the driver in the car. It was a stunning lightweight car and would no doubt have been unbeatable . Regards Mike"
