FE numbers and build factory question
Hi, does anyone know if the FE numbers on shells stay consistent even if they are built by morris or Austin?

Re: FE numbers and build factory question
As far as I know they were spot welded with the FE number when they were still just front end assemblies - then went to whichever factory according to need. Funnily enough I was chatting to someone who operated the presses last night.
Front ends were supplied on a special rack that was loaded as they were handed to the operator, no no guarantees that they would fit cars sequentially as they could be mixed up, as could the racks themselves - so the last one out of the factory (high numbers) might well be the first one to be used.
When ones were rejected for any reason there could be missing numbers in the stock list too.
This borrowed pic from an earlier post shows the FEs ready to be rolled out of Fischer and Ludlow.
