Thanks.Fanfaniracing wrote: ↑Wed Sep 02, 2020 8:36 pm Hi!
Nice progress!
I always painted the Wheels in 2k black. The hornpush can be polished quite good.
You can push the middle out from behind
Hopefully won’t need painting, but I will see how it looks after a polish.
And I’ll have a careful go at pushing it out then

That wrinkle looks nice!
How many layers did you made before you make the paint wrinkle?
Did you use a heating gun?

I warmed the parts up first with a heat gun.Fanfaniracing wrote: ↑Sun Sep 06, 2020 9:44 pm That wrinkle looks nice!

Then pretty much as per instructions - one fairly heavy coat,
let it sit for five mins, flashed over it with the heat gun
until it just started to wrinkle, let it sit for five mins ,then on with a second coat (not too heavy) flashed with the heat gun again until it reacted. Sat five mins again and then on with the final coat. Let that sit for five mins and then I gave it a
gentle bit of heat until it started wrinkling again, and
then walked away!
Really very please with how it’s come out!

Cool!
Thanks for your advice! Will try this way next time.
Was not very pleasant with my finish, so striped it again.
Keep on going your good work!

Re: 1961 Austin Se7en
Your question:
Haven’t tried yet, but will the chrome ring come off without breaking it?
My answer:
The ring is made from metal so it will not break.
Just put your fingernails (if you have some left) and pull it out. Because of the dirt it my need some fores but it will.

I’ve got some hard plastic trim wedges, so I will give it a go!
Is it just like an interference fit, or are there perhaps tangs bent over on the back of the ring?
Just don’t want to break anything if I can help it!!

Re: 1961 Austin Se7en
Not bad, but not happy with the chrome.
And the paint on the ring behind the glass is flaking.
What colour is it meant to be?
When it’s out it looked almost a really dark purple/maroon colour, but is it just meant to be matte black??
