Yipee!

Post by cookie1071 »

My 1070 block back from Southam this weekend after a freshen up. 8-) :D Can't wait to get it back in the car and put a few miles on her before the winter sets in. If all goes well, the car will then be out on my rally on 10th March ;) , although not with me in it as that would be silly cos i'd know where to go!

Here's the car earlier this year in all its glory. Not to everyones taste i'm sure and a bit rougher around the edges than it looks in the pic. but all mine since 1990.

£1 if you can guess where the pic. was taken.

Niall.
PS And yes i do need to sort the suspension out!

Not looking too dissimilar to mine Niall. This will also be out on the Borders rally. Engine is now in and its MOT'd. The first run down to Combe last month revealed a small head gasket issue, but will soon be back out to finish the running in before the worst of the winter sets in. I must admit I had a "Yipee" moment when i rolled it down the road for the first following the resto.

I settled for a 1293cc in the end when consisdering the size of crew (large) and the gradiants Niall tends to send you up!

Not sure yet, depends how things pan out with friends/family but yeh, the two together would look pretty nifty. 8-)

It's not bad from the top down it's from the bottom up that's the problem! Nevermind, if it was super tidy it wouldnt get used much. ;)

What have you done/are doing about things like seats, harnesses, cage & sumpguard in RFO?

Tempted to put a guard on mine and already have three point harnesses just undecided on whether to fit a cage :? , mainly as i intend to make SVE (aka Orangebox the 3rd) my RR car in the long-term.

I think its a case of machined by a pro ;) built by an idiot, although I havn't had a a issue in the past. In all seriousness, I will get it back together soon and get it down to the Southam rollers next month all being well.

I've fitted a cage, std safety devices with my own additions, a pair of britax harnesses and a pair of restalls will soon replace the std seats. Still not sure on the sump gaurd. TBH i have tried to keep the car looking std and like a early '60 car where possible, only making modification to suit the desired use of road rallies, hill climb and general fun.

I really need to sort out my photo's, but i do have a few.

The engine will hopefully prove quite useful. Nothing is breaking the mould and I will be happy if it just proves reliable.

In brief: Worked crank (wedge, backdrill, xdrill etc), forged pistons on balanced a+ rods, 286ish cam, ultra light flywheel ass, ap clutch, s/c box, twin hs4's on a steel manifold, reverse megaphone system, plus a whole host other bits I brought when feeling flush. The only standard part is the head because I had promised the wife a holiday, and for a easy life and all that. I expect once its been on the rollers it will be screaming out for a decent head. Lets see what santa brings...

Crikey Stephen that really does look and sound like the kiddy and much cleaner underneath than my old banger!

I have lots of questions but they're probably more easily answered with the car in front of us - any chance of a sneak preview if i'm passing your way?? ;) 8-)

Niall.

PS That floor start's not too close the exhaust is it??

I'm sure I could accomodate you.

Although its it looks tight in the photo there is comfortable clearance. I was planning on skidding the bulge in the floor to prevent any damage on rough ground, but I think its well enough out the way.

OK cool and yeh just thought i'd ask about the starter as i had a bit of a bonfire  in that area a few years ago!

I see the Essex 12-car didn't get revived for this year - pity as i'd lined up Stewart Lawrence to nav. for me in PX.

Well, the block is now back in my possession (tks to Surfblue for collecting ;) ) and ready to go back on the box, which i'm hoping will be on Saturday. 8-)

Need some good quality 1.3 roller rockers to go on the unit though - any recommendations (heard the Minisport items are OK)??
