Turbochargers?

Post by rolesyboy »

Hi All. Any views on rebuilding a turbo at home. I understand this can be done without balancing provide you keep the components lined up in the same way they are taken apart. Any tips? Special tools? Video links?Anybody care to stop me???
I have never done before but have a couple of units lying around and I fancy the challenge. Cheers. Mark

what particular turbo is it?

there are some difererences in style between newer and older types, but either type its pretty easy,

some tips...

use T bars on he turbine and compressor nut so you twist the shaft, rather than put a bending load on it, oh and check you undo the nut the right way.

as you say, mark the wheels so they go back in the same place,

check the shaft for scoring and the wheels for signs of contact.

apart from that just put it together the way it came apart, theres nt many bits in there.
