Well spotted re the door bracing, must admit i`ve got a bit blase about fitting these floors, this is the sixth floor i`ve fitted this way now and as you will see when the doors do go on they fit fine, i have great faith in the Minis` body structure as long as the door apertures are good, nothing will move...BUT THE BODY MUST BE ON A LEVEL FLOOR, and well supported in all four corners.Michael7 wrote:Kudos, absolutely superb job.
When the floor was fully removed, did you take measures to prevent the door openings from getting deformed or out of position? I don't see any bracing in the photos. Did you keep trial fitting the doors during the reassembly?
I did test fit the doors along the way too, just to make sure before welding
, however i have been doing this sort of thing for over 20 years now and i would recommend that unless you are very confident of what you are doing, always brace it to be sure.
Cheers coopertim, no i`m not going to race her, i just wanted to give her that 60`s street look, i have a nice John Aley three point roll bar, twin S tanks, S brakes, and a nice little 998 Cooper engine to slot in there, i`m keeping the trim inside more or less stock (red/grey fleck) but i`m fitting a 3 pod dash with silver gauges, finished off with a period Les Leston steering wheel, only thing i`m not sure on yet is whether to go for rose petals or S rims.
Hi Gary, good to see you got on here alright, you will get some great inspiration from this forum, some of these guys have done some fantastic work, especially when you think that a lot of them just do it as a hobby and not for a living like i do, take a look at Matts` "race car to road car restoration" excellent stuff
