Can you id this oil filter, plus 22G190 casing

This is on a 69 Cooper S. Been fiddled about with during its life.

I'm used to the old paper filters.

Can anyone tell me what this is?

A Unipart filter but any clue on part numbers so I can get replacements.



Also the gearbox casing is not original. Owner said it wasn't but this is presumably a rarer 970/1071 casing?

Does this mean it's a 3 synchro box?

Yep, 3 synchro and VERY desirable for the 1071 owners.

I'll add a couple of filters to the list.

Thought the gearbox might be desirable to small number of people.

To be honest there's no point in the owner having this box on a '69 1275.
Better off with an original box.

Wasn't planning to take the engine out.

I guess these don't come up very often but what's the price difference between a 22G190 and 22G118?

Certainly a 69 S should have the 4 synchro 1128 box.

I’m probably not the best person to advise about the price difference but suffice to say it is quite a bit. A perfect 22G190 casing (Ie no gears) could easily make £800 + !

Has the gearbox got the Hardy Spicer diff or the rubber couplings that a 190 would most likely have ?

Not something I've looked at closely but I think they are rubber. Just looked through my photos and can't confirm.
I'll take some pictures tomorrow.

Totally agree. It's the wrong box for this car. Needs an original 1128 and could make a 970/1071 owner very happy.

A good wrong box to have though and if/when we have the engine out we can put it right.

That is something a 1071 owner with the wrong engine would love to have... but I am guessing 1071 not 970?

There's no ally plate to indicate engine size. Owner assumed he had a 1275!



I guess I could roughly measure the stroke through spark plug hole.

Hydro cars were often retro fitted with front shockers to stiffen up the ride. To do this, someone would have to add the front shocker mounts.

That S engine is a great find!
