Tip of the week

Post by Nick W »

The repro battery cover strap I bought is made of black rubber  ...it should be made of this white stuff that goes hard and falls to bits  .
Just use some webbing out of a knackered MK1 seat, and cut it down and fit the ends ;)

This is a very timely post since I just "discovered" what many probably already know... The original off-white battery strap is nothing more than Pirelli webbing as used on the original upholstery for the mini and just about every other chair from the 1950's though the 1970's.

I bought an original battery strap and once I saw what they are made of I felt a little like a fool spending that much money on something that is so easy to reproduce! You can even use old Pirelli webbing from an original car and it isn't even a reproduction considering you used original materials!
