Aldon or Powermax kit?

Hi everyone,

I am rebuilding a MKI Morris Cooper, It is for a 1152cc Speedwell replica (compression ratio around 1:10.5to 1:11)
Has anyone of you tried this?

If so, is it worth anything?

What does it changes from a 25D Aldon Yellow? (appart from the price!)

It is for a 1152cc Speedwell replica (compression ratio around 1:10.5)

Uuummm do you see something when you open the link that I don't??

The ebay listing is for a set of points... which you fit inside your AYellow.... There are other brands and some are better than others.

Yes I know it's only the points, rotor arm, and condenser.

As I've never had any Aldon distributor, I wanted to know wich modifications are done.

If it's only the points, rotor arm and condensor, I can built it by myself.

What do they really improve on their distributors? Is it a real improve?

Aldon alter the springs and bob weights, to change the advance curve of the dizzy. Yes they are good on tuned engines, not not as good as using a modern mappable ignition system Megajolt etc.

AYs were good (I have one) when new dizzies suitable for a Mini were impossible to get hold of. Allegedly (according to the ads) you gave them an engine spec and they built an advance curve to suit. Didn't work for me (or rather my car).

You need a dizzie that work properly (mainly has a good bearing so the shaft doesn't wobble) and then an expert with a dyno to measure the curve your engine requires - and then the parts and tools to set up you dizzie with the correct curve.

If you don't have access to such people then an AY - or a modern 123 - may suit you.
