Tim as far as I know these were used in certain countries on the continent. If not mistaken Scandinavia, but like the add says on LHD cars. Believe it had to do with safety requirements, hence the different shape.

From the cars I've seen in Sweden, they use the same as UK
That cylinder looks like a Jaguar Mk2 clutch master cylinder
