Chrome window catches.

Post by badger1010 »

Are there variations of the chrome window catches?

Obviously left hand and right hand are different, but did the design change during the time they were fitted to the Mk 1s?

Thanks for any info.

Early cars - say up to early 1960, had no "pip" on the catch, relying on the screw alone to keep the catches fixed in place.

I believe some of the chrome catch's have screws in the base and can be dismantled, while others can not be dismantled (like all the ones I have).

You can dismantle the other type (sometimes they do this themselves) you pull the lower pin downwards and the washer should come loose. Then you can regrease them and reassemble - you will need to strake the body to keep the washers in

Has there been any update on reproduction of these or is it still eBay only? Also are there any differences between the front and rear latches? The two I have have screws in the bottom too, the photo above no longer seems to be working so wanted to just confirm for reference purposes. Thanks

Yes, all four are different - front ones are wider as the glass is on the outside track.
