Works Flash / Wipe switch Wipac series 183

I have found one of these switches in my box of Mini junk. I have checked it out with an ohm meter and it works fine. The switch is real sloppy, not precise at all. To make the switch you either push the lever up, down, sideways or even in to make the contact. Is this how they are supposed to be. It does not appear worn at all and I suspect it has never been used.
Does anybody have any info on these please?

I have a couple of Wipac reverse lights, on my car, they work very well.

on works cars LUCAS flashers were used, not the Wipacs, contrary to what all ebay sellers claim. I will try to find a proper pic. They do look similar to Wipac's, but have a different rear-dash fitting, more like a small barrel, and lucar terminals. They came in 3 different lengths. Now, where is my Abingdon anorak....

That makes sence, with all the works info, as it explains how 2 (or more?) Lucas wiring specialists,
worked almost fulltime, for Abingdon/BMC/Works.

In the '50s and '60s Wipac (from Wico Pacy) components were the cheaper option over Lucas. For example, on the high end models of BSA motorbikes 'quality' Lucas components were used while the low end models used Wipac to save a few bob.

So the switch being all woolly and wobbly is normal then?
It's going on ebay later to start its new life as the basis of a dodgy Works replica Cooper S for somebody. At least it will make someone happy rather than stored in a box for another 35 years.

I reckon this is the correct switch. cannot believe that a car individually wired by Lucas personel used Wipac parts.
