chassis number help

Post by captain »

Hi think i have been mistaken, that my reg doc had a typing error in the chassis no,and stupidly sent it away to be ammended, and also stupidly had a new plate made with the correct number, the vehicle is a 1960 mk1 mini minor 850 cc the chassis no is
MA25434688 and i think it should be MA2S434688,can anyone verify this please :?

25 instead of 2s is the most common error on v5c's i think when it comes to mini chassis numbers.

the dvla will notice its wrong when you mot it as it will come up as an error, so its best to change it.
please note, these are my own, individual sales, nothing whatsoever to do with my employer, minispares

I was told that for mot they only use the last 6 digits so this would not be an issue ?????? :?

I Can 100% tell you that this is not the case.

Ive had a few months of 'dvla hell' thanks to this EXACT problem!

If the chassis number differs on the mot (i.e. read off the car) from what is on the v5c it’s flagged as a discrepancy. you will then be invited by the dvla to provide them with every single bit of information you have about the car to show that its right - if there is any doubt (or you cannot provide / find the information they want) they can request a vosa inspection.

fortunately in my case, the car had been owned for over ten years and I was able to provide old mot's, copies of older logbooks etc to answer all the questions that they asked me and I got a shiny new logbook with all the data correct and a nice letter from the dvla telling me that my vehicle was correct, and all its information and numbers where ok and that the matter was now closed - ive filed this letter away just in case I have any further problems!

i suspect that had this vehicle been a new purchase, or was the first mot in years, then i would have been made to go for a vosa inspection.

And it is not limited to just the U.K. The problem is universal. I've had to provide evidence to several people here in the U.S. to use so they could get their "25" cars changed to "2S" cars.

Same here. My MK2 had the same issue with the VIN plate.
DVLC mailed me for verification etc. All sorted now.

I forgot to put the Vin plate back on mine after doing work on it and put it in for an MOT, they let it through, and told me to sort it for the following year which I thought was remarkably good of them!

Yes! With my MK2, original prefix A-A2SBL they managed to change it to HA25137. They had to be drunk

my tc was a 'ha' as well, but that fault started on day one - on the green log booked issued in 1964 it looks far more like a 'H' than any 'A' ive ever seen.

that one was easy to sort out with the DVLA though
