Hi All, I have an old Mk 2 Mini I bought for spares years ago which still has its registration plate but had its front end panels removed so no chassis number and it was fitted with an Austin 1100 lump. Having seen how thin on the ground older Minis are becoming I have now decided to restore the car and wondered what the likelihood is of me getting the original registration back. I never bothered to apply for the documents as it the time it simply didn't matter (it was 1988!) and now I suspect that I will lose the cars identity. Without a chassis number or engine number have I a hope in hell of getting it registered or will it end up on a Q plate or similar? Cheers. Mark

i have bought a car in the past that had no logbook... you can fill in a form and apply for oneusing the reg.... you get the chassis number etc on the new logbook??

an idea?? :?

nowadays if u dont quote the chassis no ,,u dontget a v5c--
for my sins,i own a 1957 wolsleley 1500

Thanks Brook. That is exactly what I thought. The V5C states if you do not provide a chassis number the form will be returned to you. Is there a way of establishing its chassis number if I have the number plate?

I believe there are still some HPI used car check agencies (those for the motor trade?) that reveal the chassis number when you only provide the basic details like reg no. etc?.......however most now seem to also require the VIN/Chassis no. before sending print out of the full car history details.

My garage invoicing program has dvla look up if you pm me the reg i will try it and see if the details are still live

I can get all vehicle details including previous reg numbers through the look up service

if it has not been registered since 88 it may not provide the relevant details, worth a try though.

Was the chassis no. stamped on the o/s angledflitch plate like Mk1's ?

Another thought.... you can do those things where you text the reg and it tells you if its stolen or what-not? it costs but dont some of them tell you the chassis number etc so you can check it when buying a car? a guy did it when he came to buy my scirocco and checked it from his phone against the logbook...

then you could send off for a V5C...?

Its the one, with the main ground/chassi connection for the loom sit (BIG fat Phillips headed screw) and right infront of the 2 subframe tower bolts.
Or where the washer motor is fitted on a MK 4.
