Re: rover v8 in mini clubman
hi
well thats the alloy bonnet needs welding to finish it or maybe that alloy solder that might be cheaper or i can do a steel one that will look much the same but i can weld it the alloy one i can not do as i need a tig for that and they are not cheap
but the bump in the front is to clear the air cleaner
well cheers and keep up the good work roger mcnab

Re: rover v8 in mini clubman
well after a lot of time spent on other pursuits and looking at the alloy bonnet i decided to make a steel one as i can do all the welding myself so i got some 1.2mm steel and cut the edge foe the back of the bonnet and clipped it to the back of old steel bonnet and started welding in the pieces will post finished item when finished

Re: rover v8 in mini clubman
well with good intentions i started with the new bonnet for the clubman as the air cleaner sits higher than would be convenient and as the standard bonnet will not fit i need to get this right as the alloy one will cost a lot to be welded so i cut a strip for the back lip and a small panel to raise the middle section up for carb /air cleaner clearance then cut some side panels to bring it to the sides welded them on and then cut and shaped the side strips and welded the left one on and trial fitted and it is wrong but the right side will be fine but the left will need to be cut and patched
will leave bonnet on car and tack the bits til all is good then weld it all up this will keep me busy til doomsday but can not go anywhere yet so happy
shedding

Re: rover v8 in mini clubman
well what a day it was rain and more rain but picked up the new fly wheel and allthe bits needed to machine it up a great job done now need to do a put together to se if the clutch shaft fits into the crank end if not then work out what needs doing to get it to fit
might have to skim a bit of the gearbox or make a special gasket once this is sorted then the adapters can be welded to the sides of the block and the extension for the gear box welded up and installed
slowly it is coming together at least the rust in the body is about 6 inches square no salt on our roads here in oz it probably gets sent over to you guys
well happy mini ing cheers roger mcnab

Re: rover v8 in mini clubman
hi
well time and tide wait for no man so i have been working on the car on the little jobs like sorting laser wipers for the mini and all the little things that make it complicated like the clubman has recessed wiper posts with different rubber fittings the bonnet center was of center so had to be cut out and moved also raised at the same time
but i may finish it in a few years as long as i do not tire of it first
cheers roger

Re: rover v8 in mini clubman
hi all
just a short up date no progress on car as yet but have done some work on other things like making a new trolley for the mig as the bought one started to sag under the weight so made one out of some thick timber and some scrap tube for a grinder rack will try to get a pic then to rid the shed of all the timber that was always in the way i built a new work bench to get the rickety old one that has been there for 20 years how i made kitchens on it without it collapsing is a miracle now the timber is out of the way work might start again with less hinderence
cheers roger mcnab

Re: rover v8 in mini clubman
hi well the best laid plans of mice and men seem to quickly go to ruin not much happening with the cars and bikes except that a friend bought a 99 zx9 kawasaki complete in boxes which means that lots of bits missing so that has been holding things up big time but have done some work on bonnet number 4 this is in grp so no buckled steel just lots of frustration but good practice for the uni gt body some time in the future
well keep up the good work and stay covid free cheers roger mcnab

Re: rover v8 in mini clubman
hi
well to day i thought that a bit of work on the mini would be a good idea so i got no 2 gearbox out from the bench and cleaned it up and also the thing that holds the diff in place then after they cleaned up well i put the pinion gear on and then fitted the crown gear and put the diff in place the new straight cut diff gears fitted perfectly put the rear housing on then put the flanges in for the hardy spicer joints next job will be taking the empty gear box shell out and put the front discs in so i can work out the drive shaft length so i can get them welded up half 1800 half mini with sleeve welded over the join then the gear box comes out for final assembly also the extended oil pick up was to be made as well so some progress is being made the t100r project will have to wait
cheers roger

Re: rover v8 in mini clubman
hi
just before christmas i drove past a local transport depot and they had a pile of pine pallets out front for free so went home got trailer and went back a lot were gone but one of the workers called out that there was more inside so i drove in and loaded up the trailer with some very good ones
pulled them apart at home and while looking at the 100x40mm gluts i had a thought i could make some ends for a spit to put the mini on so doubling the legs and putting a bottom for wheels yet to buy and some pipe and bits i will have a spit for the car pics to follow
cheers roger
