Morris Mini Minor 850 Super De Luxe (1961)
Hi all,
I own a 1961 Morris Mini 850 Super De Luxe (old british white). There are some doubts that I have to fix in order to complete the restoration to its original state. What I'm asking is if someone has some information regarding this specific model about the following items:
1. Leather seats colour. Black and white?
2. Grille: the original is stainless steel or should it be white painted? The same regarding the wheels: should it be white painted also, with the steel hub cap in the middle?
3. What about the petrol cap, which one is the original?
4. Does it use any exterior mirror?
5. Should this model also the overrides at the bumpers (front and rear)?
I'm attaching some photos. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance,
Ricardo

Hi,
Think its a Mini Minor De luxe, the super De luxe wasnt about till 1962.
Wheels should be OEW, and I believe the bumbers did come with corner bars and overriders.
Interior should all be one colour, and the petrol cap would of been the standard chrome one, also the grille would of been chrome.
Hope this helps (pls correct me if Im wrong on the above), nice car though!!!

Hi,
Thanks for the replies to all of you.
Do you mean the seats should be all black? As it is right now, the black and white lists are more "cooper style". However I thought the original will use also two colours.
Also, which corner bars are those? They attach the bumpers to the overriders, right?
At last, the petrol cap is the one, that is used in the early models, with the key lock, right?
Thanks again. Cheers,
Ricardo

Im sure someone will be able to help, getting a heritage certificate for the car might tell you the original spec.
Cheers

I've to double check on the docs if it is a super de luxe or just a de luxe. To be honest I think it is a super de luxe with the indication that it has leather seats.
Does the heritage certificates give you all the specification about the car?
Cheers,
Ricardo

Hi Ricardo,
it looks like you are you from Portugal too. It makes you the 3rd Ricardo from Portugal on the forum until now.
Your car looks great. The indicator lenses should be clear and the headlamps should not support presence lights as they are part of the indicator setup.
Your speedo seems to be from a later model. The seats are non-original, but the shell looks to be, apart from the front panel. The petrol cap is fine, not sure about being painted white. Oh, the color is Old English White (WT3), not old british white. The car should have overiders, but I'm not sure about the grille's finish. Gear knob looks like a GT/later one.
Anyway, nice looking car!

An heritage certificate should give you the same information about your car as a non-export (UK) car. It's from around 1963 onwards that they don't have any records as cars were being assembled here in Setúbal (CKD).

Hi,
Thanks mate. Well, I think you are right regarding the gear knob. It should be using the other one with the engraved white pattern on it.
The petrol cap probably should be in chrome and not painted. The seats, I think they are the original ones, with the back a bit more slim than the early models (like mkii 1000) but I'm not sure about the pattern (white and black).
Cheers,
Ricardo

Hi,
by seats, I meant covers. The covers/pattern is non original.
