Re: At The Auctions
This had so much promise. A rare and significant Mini, but.................engine bay that could be Russet brown (wrong) or Rose metallic (better than silver) but is either way a bloody disgrace. And that interior.....

Re: At The Auctions
That don't think that body did started life as a Special. It has some of the Special bits inside (see video)...

…but there are a couple of obvious errors, the side repeaters are in the wrong position, Specials came with opening rear quarters and the boot badge is wrong. It would still be expensive at half the price!

Re: At The Auctions
Without seeing the reg number it's hard to say what it was but the engine bay looks like Rose metallic. It's just the usual tarted up Mini tbh.
'Mileage believed genuine' - another dealer gem! They have absolutely no shame.

Re: At The Auctions
Not been much to report here, but some of the auction houses are trying to hold sales.
An interesting car is on offer at Brightwells next week in their timed auction. It's a bit of BMC history so to speak, being built for the BMC Director of Production Bill Davies. Based on a Mk1 Mini it was fitted with a 998 engine and painted in Carlton Grey with a special red leather interior. I remember seeing it at The Pride of Longbridge show a few years ago and it looked quite smart. It could do with some detailing under the bonnet but would make a good conversation piece at a show when we can all meet up again in a field some where.

Also in the same sale is an over priced Mk2 Cooper

I too remember looking at this car at POL a few years ago and thinking what a nice car it was.

Re: At The Auctions
I've never seen it in the flesh but it was for sale (on ebay I think?) a while ago. I clearly remember it and its history. Don't know if it sold or not on that occasion. Very interesting car.
Re: At The Auctions
Does a bit of privateer rally history and the historical fitting of a Downton kit justify the high value of this Travaller?

Re: At The Auctions
I think that is a tad optimistic. Its not a John Cooper converted Travellerand it isn't an S. That lamp bar is also nothing like the original. When I tried to sell my 1275 "S" surf blue traveller a couple of years ago there were no buyers. I ended up converting it back to standard 998cc spec to sell it in the end...

I quite like that. I could use it for work, might get most of my tools in back. Get it sign written, job done.

EDIT, no under bonnet shot or engine detail which is bit odd though
