correct 997 Cooper pulley?

Post by Cole Liggett »

Trying to sort out which crank pulley the 997 came with. Was it the simple pressed type or was it the two piece similar to the cooper s type? I seem to remember my 998 cooper engine having the simple pressed crank pulley but the Anatomy of a Classic Mini book says that the 997 Cooper should have a two piece pulley with the 12a366 pulley and the 12a367 damper. Anyone able to confirm which type?

Also curious if there is a difference between dynamo pulleys between 850/997/1071? Looking to find a date coded dynamo and wondering if I need to watch the pulley. My car was built July 63

Are there different sized water pump pulleys? Sorry for so many pulley questions, just wanting to make sure I get this right.

Cheers,
Cole

Hello Cole,
I can confirm that the 997 used the 2 part crank pulley and balancer.I can't answer the other questions but someone
on here will know for sure. I just looked at the factory parts book I have and it lists the same part # for the water pump
pully and dynamo pully for 997 and 998 engines.

The 997 used both types of crankshaft pulley. Initially the two piece S type and then the one piece.

The change point is at engine numbers 28516 for low compression engines and 26304 for high compression units. Gold seal replacements definitely came with the one piece pulley. I have one. Whether all gold seals were like this I don’t know.
