Job for the new year I must fit seat belts . Mid 63 car it has mountings on the tunnel on the sill and on the door post , so that’s straight forward but where to mount the reels ? Can they go in the rear bins as per later cars using fittings from later cars? Any pictures or suggestions gratefully received.
Thanks Roy

The original BMC fitting instruction can be found on the main site by clicking the following link.

Re: Fitting retractable seat belts to a early car
The BMC instructions show a mounting plate through the floor something I an probably not going to find easily now , and probably only suitable for the correct style and make of reel .
Utilising the bottom bolt is a option for the lower fixing and reel mounting but just wondered about mounting inside the rear bins as per later cars ?
Anybody done that?

Re: Fitting retractable seat belts to a early car
I have a set of Britax Recoil Belts fitted also with the one bolt securing fitting that screws into the vertical sill captive nut .. yes its some fiddle to fit this bolt & tighten up as access to that bolt is not easy but is doable with the unit fully assembled .. the issue when installed is all works correctly however access for rear seat passenger is restrictive with a normal Mk1 Mini seat .

I put the reels IN the rear pockets, feeding the belt through the ashtray holes.
Bolt in with large spreader washers and you're there.
Saves the kids tripping over the reel.
