Changes to HSCC 1300cc historic saloon classes for 2020
The HSCC are now offically inviting 1300cc powered Mini variants like the Hornet / Elf to their Historic Touring Car Championship along with 1300cc A35s, A40s and Minors.

Not sure that is going to help the decline in entries that much, but I guess it gives somewhere else for all those HRDC academy cars to race.
I think it's about time one of the historic racing clubs started a class for post 66 group 2 and group 5 type cars. It would be interesting to see how Broadspeed and Harry Mann type escorts got on against the highly developed Lotus Cortinas.

Will be interesting to see if it brings new people in.
There does seem to be a lack of 70s races. I’m building a Corvette at the moment and because it’s got flared arches there’s very few series where it can run apart from the Masters/Peter Auto stuff.

I agree, there seems to be an attitude that post 66 is not worth it, maybe driven by the FIA rules? I think post 66 saloon and sports car racing is when it got interesting! My GTM is 71 but I have been told I would get an entry to swinging sixties, so I have a bit more choice.Oneball wrote:Will be interesting to see if it brings new people in.

I think it’s the Goodwood Revival that’s driven it, I think it’s success has actually had a negative effect on historic racing in this country.

To be honest, i thinks its a good thing, could be interesting seeing the inline A Series competing with 1275 engines....should bring the field together a bit.
It will also give HRDC cars some where to aspire to.....

I don't find pre 66 stuff very interesting tbh - it's been done to death. Now, Escorts, Avengers, Alfasuds and the odd 1275GT would make an excellent seventies series.

Have you ever watched Australian Touring Car Masters? They’ve got a rolling cut off date so have now got everything from 60s Mustangs to late 70s A9X Toranas. Find some races on YouTube it’s worth a watch.

Classic Sports Car Racing Club allow later cars, bigger wheels etc. I just think there's too many historic racing series currently. CTCRC, CSCRC, HSCC, Masters, HRDC, there's just too many chasing too few competitors. I do hear quite a few saying they're going over to HSCC from Masters as it's become too expensive, though sprint races arent everybody's cup of tea. I think HSCC would help themselves if they got rid of the mandatory use of historic tyres.
CSCRC do two driver 40 minute races which helps share the costs and it was quite refreshing watching the Dutch lads at Donington this year, they had Mk1s, Clubmans, Mk1 Escorts etc on the same grid so much more free than here. One thing I wouldn't like to see is what happens in rallying here with lots of late mk4/5 shells wearing Mk1 number plates.

You have to be careful with tyres as modern tyres can be too good for old cars! The use of msa list 1 a and b is fine I think, the mini's in HSCC should be allowed to use other 10 inch tyres though, in the roadsports categories I can use 10" Avons and Yoko's! Silly really... I like the idea of a rolling cut off date for certain categories too.

In Norway the biggest race class is 66-71 >1300. Cheaper than a pre65 both to buy and run.

Don't mind the only pre65 Mini, that's just me begging to run among the 71 cars instead of the Galaxies in the pre65 heat.
