eBay classic car parts category

Post by Austin Cooper »

Is it just me or have eBay removed the classic car parts category? If this is the case it's going to be very difficult to search for BMC Mini parts without trawling through thousands of BMW MINI parts which I have no interest in. It does seem quite an idiotic thing to do which will certainly put me off using eBay that little bit more.

It looks like they have.
If I don't want to see the BMW stuff I put "mini -bmw" in the search box. If you put - before any word it will delete those listings from your search. That won't catch all of them but it will get rid of some. You may also want to add moto and motorbike to the negatives.

Nope - just checked for you -

You click on catagories, then cars motorcycles & vehicles,
then on the right side a list comes and it has classic car parts, as no 7 down, in the partslist.

edit : 10 sek later  now it dont work ?????????

just went back to try it again ???????? strange ???????????

Hope they get this fixed, or it will be a nightmare to find stuff ??????? might aswell give up then

Clicking on that link takes you to "Other Car Parts" :?

and it appears that anyone who had something listed in Classic Parts have had their listings moved to Other Parts. I bet there are lots of happy sellers on Ebay today, not.

I listed my Lotus chassis last night in 'classic car parts - Lotus', and so I just checked, and it's listed in 'car parts- other'. :x what use is that?????

fine if someone is searching for exactly what you are listing, but useless for browsing.

It's getting worse each year. Imagine not even telling users that their listing in a cattegory is going to move so fundamentally? I'm paying for this service after all.......

its not good, just checked under car parts , mini, and all the classic parts are with bini parts , 35'000 items in in this category, when it used to be around 10-12'000 in classic car part, mini,. not good,

i sent them an email explaining, maybe everyone on here should do the same so they get the point that they have made a bad choice to move/ remove classic car parts.

the more people email the better chance we may get them to put it back.

Its the same, with any company / firm / etc, when they get too big,
the little man on the floor is the looser = poor service - more expensive - less value for money - etc

Ebay Australia did the same thing to us a couple of years ago. Got rid of the Mini category and dumped everything in together. Your queries end up full of criteria trying to sort the chaff out from the wheat. They got a lot of complaints but didn't change it.

Aye, my saved search of mini / classic car parts is now in other car parts. Makes no sense at all.

Good tip Surf, not heard that one before.

Don't you just love them, why change it, if no one was posting in that category you could understand it.

Hang on, had a thought, I bet the thinking behind it is the same as what they do in supermarkets every couple of months, move everything around so you have to walk down ALL the ailse, this has been proved to boost sales, thats why they do it, you see something that was not on your list and buy it.

Thats what ebay have done, made you go through many more menus and screens in the hope that something will catch your eye that you might have not been looking for initially, and buy it.

Makes sense to me, and we will still keep using them, and they know it. Tossers.

Check this URL out. EBay has been planning on modifying their listing. Their reasoning (increased sales for the seller). Bullshi2!

Why can't they leave things as they are.
Try searching for Mini Estate or countryman etc and nearly all the ads are for that monsterous BMW offering.
Selecting auction only clears some of the rubbish out of the search.
I typed Mini in the "Other Car Parts" search and came up trumps, but with about 20% BMW thrown in which is still annoying though.
Will try Surf's tip as well.
These little things are sent to try us I suppose. :|

I have a saved search on My Ebay

mini -bmw -one -moto -2001 -2004 -2006 -amplifier

I used to use this when searching for mini stuff in the non classic area, it some times tuned up bargains.

When searching for wheels I use

Mini Wheels -12 -13 -14 -15 -16 -17 -18

This gets rid of most of the BMW stuff and the deep dished 12s and 13s.

As i said before if you put a negative in front of someting it deletes that word (or number) from your search.

You can just string all the terms together in brackets, its tidier than putting a minus in front of each of them.

mini -(bmw, one, moto, 2001, 2004, 2006, amplifier)

Its well worth reading the instructions for advanced searches, they are reasonably powerful and simple to set up. below is the search I use for NOS Mini stuff, it searches for Mini with the terms in the first set of brackets, less the terms in the second set of brackets.

Mini (NOS, old stock,n.o.s.) -(honda,bike,cycle,BMW,usb,bmx,DAC,Gibson,tupperware,powell,skirt,dress)

I would really like there to be an alternative to eBay, for sale sections on forums are great but you'd be waiting a long time to get everything you need. Also, from the converse point of view, I have listed something on a forum for sale section for £30 and had no interest what so ever, I was close to giving it away but listed it on eBay with a 99p start and it made over £170. While eBay almost exclusively has the largest selection of hard to find and NOS parts and people are able to sell stuff for so much more than they can anywhere else, we are not going to stop using it as buyers or sellers despite our many frustrations with it.

I will however, make a point of complaining to them on this occasion, they are deliberately making the site harder and more time consuming to use. I have tried the various advice posted in this topic, which although excellent, does not replace the convenience or simplicity of having a dedicated section. As an example, I often search for Mini Cooper as I am slowly collecting parts to restore my Mk2 Cooper. With the classic car parts section there were few enough results that it only took a few minutes a week to check what was on there and prevented me from having to search for specific items, now searching for Mini Cooper even with every possible word removed, I still get thousands of parts for BMW MINIs.

Hello,

This is great shame. The link below should take you direct to the categories suggestion form. If everyone can make a comment then perhaps it will help.
