It’s a funny old world. I remember the 970cc as the poor relation. I owned two in the early seventies and no one wanted them. I also recall my friend in his 1098cc MG 1100 passing me on the motorway which was much embarrassment. The only interesting thing about the 970cc Cooper S is the small number built. They are not great road cars :D

Interesting how the “real” auctions adjust more quickly than EBay, wouldn’t be surprised if the 64 850, would get bid to over £5k on EBay :?

It says rolling shell but there's an awful lot of "stuff" inside and an engine. £1500 estimate = a bargain at the current mood, isn't it?

It's all crap inside!

There's nothing '59 left, doors, glass, engine, column, switch panel all wrong. Only thing I spotted early was the rear quarter glass and they were shot. Apparently it's had a pair of floors badly put in as well.

Still a decent buy for the early shell.

Just a heads up on the car below for sale. I sold it a few years ago for what it was, an 850 1963 registration AOD 787A with over sills, poor paint/panel gaps/filler etc. It’s now advertised as a 1964 cooper s with original 970 engine. Apparently it’s been rebuilt although it’s wearing the paint I sold it with :/. For sale at coys 35-40k. Carefully worded description that’s quite misleading.
