Mini 24 hour race this weekend

Post by Tim Harber »

By way of something new I'm doing the 24 hour race at Snetterton this weekend with the ex Mighty Mini lot who race with the 2CVs

https://www.2cvracing.org.uk/24hr-getting-involved/

or Facebook: Mini-Grand24

Yes, I know its a bit off limits here but all who do it rave about it keep going back .

There are 6 Minis taking part this year with 20 2CV teams. The Minis are basically a 1 litre-engined Mighty Mini

Normally they do a race at Spa in October as well but as the 2CV has its 70th anniversary this year its an all Citroen race , packed out with C1's

My question at this point is that we are lacking a designated person on our team to do refueling during the race and I have to ask whether there are any mugs out there who fancy tagging along ?

How did it go Tim?

Sorry, I have only just found this, I have been avoiding conversations on Mini's in Motorsport since Adam wrote my car off :)

Sorry only just noticed your comment

Urm , we were one of only 2 cars not to finish . 6 Minis 20 2CV's . You can see the reason why in my pics. 1000cc flat tops re-ringed from last year - gave out in our car after 11 hours . We then put in an ex-scrapyard engine but after 2 hours it was going to die as it didn't have a central oil pickup. Team next to us also had one let go similarly.

Absolutely brilliant event though - I can see why some people just do the one (or two events if Spa comes up - which it doesn't this year as its an all-Citroen race as its their 70th anniversary year) . Ok its about £700 per driver once you have joined their club, but you get 7 hours seat time. Oulton cost me about £400 for about an hour ;Chateau Impeney cost me £200 for less than 3 minutes

Of course it's not intense racing but quite a different pace and idea. They run 1000cc motors so supply isn't a problem There are several Mighty Minis out there that are shortly not going anywhere except maybe to S Class in the Mini Seven club . I am going to see if I can whip up some enthusiasm amongst folk to have a go.

Pics are here and I will post up my article for the magazine

Sorry you had a DNF Tim, still it sounds like a Hoot.

Start hassling Rich, it's about time he had a racing project to think about!
