AppK regs have gone completely out the window....I return to racing after a 3 year break and find it's now de rigeur to use...

non-original master cylinders
wheel spacers to avoid rose-petals chafing the disc calipers* ('didn't see anyone getting their front track measured)
fully adjustable suspension (KAD rear tracking/camber brackets, HiLos, etc...)
liberal use of carbon fibre inside the cockpit
electronic ignition

...and that's just the stuff I could see!

It's become a bloody joke. Building an AppK car is not supposed to be easy but the lack of regulation has meant people trying things on and, in the absence of admonishment, getting away with it.

*to get Rose-petals to fit on the front, you have to re-engineer the disc calipers so that they don't catch on the inside of the rims. This is NOT expensive to do but it takes time and effort. Simply slapping on a pair of wheel spacers will easily take you over the front track limit. But...because no one gets checked (in the UK) anymore, people get away with it. This is just the thin end, etc...sooner or later these cars will end up as Miglias. Is that what we want?

You didn’t mention anti roll bars, dog boxes or ATB type diffs. The big names even advertise these as for App K.

When I first built my S to HSCC regs it was 4 seconds a lap quicker than an App K car and the only time an App K car overtook me was with Barrie Williams behind the wheel. There’s now nothing in it.

Agree as you say re; appK .. Reality is Goodwood want cars that have a "Mini look " yet be a Race Mini with the Yanks Tanks / Fords / Alfas etc .. its all about building the Goodwood Mini Specials with Swifty being the bench mark with all the engine tricks etc; .. Silverstone Classic just jump on the back of this setting up a anything goes Mini Race & pile them high in numbers all to woo in the Crowds & Gate Money.. Further if the rich kid drivers go Mini Banger Racing all the better :roll:

I also thought that Swifty Willow Mini in the last Race should have been given the Black Flag for dragging the rear bumper around Lap after Lap to the Flag.. The Rear Bumper was only hanging on by just one corner stud for most of that Race .. it could have been a big issue if that Bumper had come off & Hit another car . OK the Swifty Car has to win to keep up the aura :o

It was Middlehurst in a Swift powered Mini that got the meat ball flag with the bumper trailing, he finished the race 2nd and got disqualified, Adam Morgan won in Swiftys Willow car

very good race, but spoiled by the contact for me

Yes it was Chris Middlehurst who was robbed of a podium after leading for most of the race by ignoring the black flag he got for trailing his rear bumper - knocked off by Tom Bell (or was it Turner?) in the white car. Goodwood it certainly wasnt! (though there were a couple of prangs there). Barry Sime was so lucky not to be collected by other cars when he was punted off backwards at high speed in the first race. :?

I hear what you're saying but there's plenty of drivers who never get anywhere near a podium with all the tricks you list (some consistantly at the back with the full works) and by the same token quite a few who dont have the budget who do really well. Look how well Phil House did in his new (oldschool) car! Its rare I've ever come away from a race meeting and NOT said the best driver won.

Answering my own question in case it helps anyone else , KAD do ready made setup, they also post AP part numbers.....not the only way to acheive new master cylinders, but quite handy :D

Barry Sime had luck in a dry race 2, but still too "inspired" driving from some racers first turn in both races.

that said, the mini race at Silverstone Classic was a huge blast - and the more downtalk coming (from anywhere), the less races are likely to come in the future, unfortunately :)
