No right hand tank Ken ...

Looking forward to all the 'experts' at local shows telling me it can't be a real Cooper S as it hasn't got twin tanks

I’m using an 2k epoxy primer that is waterproof but yes, normally primer is porous so good advice :)
Mix a small amount of clear coat in with the primer if your leaving it for some time that will seal it, you will probably rub most of it off anyway..

Works really well sometimes.... ;) I got mine at an excellent price because "everyone" knows that Ss never had single tanks and sliding windows.....

At best it might have been a Cooper but more likely a tarted up 850.....

Cheers, Ian

Yes, its very very similar to HOY, better in some places but worse in others.

I'm sure that the professionals restoring that car, in better working conditions, will do an awesome job.

Yes I had the same comment at beaulieu this year . I've also had when I tell them that it's a 970S ... " do you mean a 997 Cooper " ...

Ahhhhhhh, Just when I was getting HOY withdrawal symptoms, Andy's come up with the medicine! More photos of the amazing progress.

Talking of all the 'experts' that appear at the shows, I've had them spouting about factory fitted minilites, arches, British Racing Green - i fact any colour that your imagination allows, pretty much off the shelf! All I seem to remember is being told by Steeles in Swindon that they've got an almond green one in stock so take it or leave it. And if I want a red one, join the queue or look elsewhere!

Well its only the first 'cover' primer Richard but yes, progress has been quicker than I imagined at the start of the project.

Hoping to have it all at the first colour coat stage by late September.

Amazing progress Andy, it looks great so far. Even putting primer on is a huge milestone.

Thanks Mark and Alistair, nice to know that my project is interesting to people and up-lifting .. :D

The forum has been invaluable and people on here so helpful giving help and advice on what it should and shouldn't have. The latest being that the front bumper lip should not have the overrider cut outs - it will be done ;)

I haven't done a huge amount since the last posting, as other life things have got in the way a bit but I've got most of the shell in epoxy 2k primer now. Just got one inner wing area, the inner B posts and the parcel shelf underside.

Here's a picture of the underside of the shell as of now. I'll make a start on making good the welded joints soon and then 2k high build primer.

I'll be using tintable Raptor stone chip for the underside, having seen AndyB's Surf Blue shell photos.

Unfortunately, the body prep is the least favourite part of the restoration for me, but as we all well know, the finished shell will only be as good as the prep.

I'm like you Mark. This thread and Daz's Cooper resto are the ones that really wind my enthusiasm clock up. When I need a bit of encouragement I re-read these threads. Call it my equivalent of a fix
