FAN METAL MK1 COLOR ORIGINAL - YELLOW PAINTING CODE

I'm looking for the exact color to complete the restoration of my FAN MK1 metal

Would anyone have the reference PANTONE or ? for the Orignal yellow painting please ?

OK, here is what I reckon for a Mk1. From memories of long ago and more recent observations ! The engine and trans appear to have been almost completely assembled prior to painting. Fitted after painting was the distributor and clamp (plain), carburettor and abutment plate (plain), coil (plain, although the coil mounting on the dynamo/generator was green) waterpump pulley and fan (golden yellow). The serial number plate was often masked by a piece of tape with torn ends placed over the plate. The gearbox/transmission housing was rather roughly done, more like hit with the spray gun when the engine was painted but the clutch housing was painted. The underside and lower parts of the trans had nothing more than green overspray on the aluminium. On my Cooper S engine, the clutch operating arm looked like it had been black when fitted and was not completely covered in green. Going by what I could see the clutch slave cylinder was green but mine had been replaced. Many seem to make the mistake of leaving the starter and dynamo end plates unpainted. I don't think they were ever like that ex factory. "

If you are doing the lot in one go, I've found that Rover Inca Yellow is very close indeed. I've a heritage fan on an Inca yellow pulley and no one has ever spotted the very slight hue difference.

Having said that, my old tropical fan and the old fine blade one are slightly different shades too. The original fan is more yellow than the tropical, which is more golden like the Inca Yellow - hence my choice.

I was surprised when stripping my old 970 down that the spacer plate was black, so maybe someone might comment on that too.

I have that on my 61 and on my 1071 too and on the nos ones that I have.

With regards to the colour yellow, RAL 1003 Signal Yellow works well too

Compare the heritage fan's yellow with the Rover Inca Yellow on the pulley if it helps

I tested with an engine paint ( C71 Speedline Colour YELLOW bought from Somerford) but the color is to 'GREEN'

I’ve always used Inca Yellow, it’s the Triumph shade I use.

With all due respect to you Josoa and John Parnell, I’ve tried both and found the Datsun deep yellow far too dark. I agree with Andy, Rover Inca yellow is as close to the original as doesn’t matter

I realise this is a very old post but while searching through some BMC Standards documents I came across this relating to the metal fan that mentions the colour specification - YL8. Thought it worth posting here.

That will get the Bobble hats twitching (pinched the phrase from GraemeC ) - not powder-coat, not two pack, but stoving enamel….

Personally, I would of wiped the fan with thinners and put it back on, looks ok to me, lots of patina....

Interesting, Search engines bring it up as YL.08, can't find any images of anything painted in that colour. Wonder if its recognised by my local supplier.

Inca Yellow with a white undercoat is usually spot on.

I doubt that any paint code would match to the original BMC YL8
