Interesting in this photo and the one of Bournemouth in the old garages thread how many trolley buses were still around in the late 1960s - electric so zero emissions - presumably scrapped to sell off the valuable copper cabling?

Scrapped because they were not cost effective, especially from a maintenance point of view, let alone the amount of street furniture required to hold all the cabling.

Is the red cart thing on the left hand side of the Wolverhampton photo one of those electric thinggies used by postmen of the era for taking their mail and parcels round. They used to be called Postmans Prams

Thanks Stu - I didn't twig it's a Countryman from the pic I posted. Glad to know it's still about. I wonder if any of the AEI gubbins came from the Rugby plant, my Dad was working there in '65...

Someone has had a 'bit of a 'moment' here...

1961 - MOT tests for road-worthiness had just been introduced for cars over 10 years old, apparently frightening people with pre-1937 cars off the road....
"Many thousands of owners of pre-1937 cars have not even tried to get a certificate of road-worthiness. And even many post-war cars are not considered worth the trouble when their owners can get 50 bob for them".

Yes we did Mark. Saw the other day it’s still being shown off in the museum. It made for a interesting drive, felt like a dodgem car.

The Ogle picture is from the October 1962 issue of Small Car & Mini Owner. I posted the full road test feature on the forum almost 2 years ago.

I think you'll find that photo in the GRX309D thread ("Works car found") on here. Note Erik Carlsson in silly hat in far background.
