OK, it’s been a while since I posted on this thread. With all the antipathy to “red and white” cars perhaps I’m safe with an OEW replica. So time to ‘fess up. In any case any one going to Beaulieu will cotton on. I’m attempting areplica of TMO 561. So here are a few taster photos of what has been going on since August last year.

Still a little way to go but you have the flavour. And yes I know the rear parcel shelf should be black!

I did the graphics from scratch using an open source programme and then printed off water slide transfers .

I’ll just share a wee problem I came across today. The multi hole lower window rails on this car were rotten as a pear. You could crumble them in your hand. Having not found any decent genuine replacements I bought some Minispares repro ones. Don’t get me wrong I’m not knocking these because if you can’t find the real thing it’s great to have a fall back.

Today it was time to fit them up. Once all screwed in place with new runners I found that the glass was rubbing the edge of the SS rail and making it impossible to open the rear glass fully. With the rail out again, it was clear that the edge of the rail was not straight.

Once the excess had been removed and the edge dressed with a carborundum stone there was no problem. The closed/locked holes did need opening slightly to let the catches engage.

But if anyone has a decent set of originals they are not needing do think of me.

I’m taking 936 YUE to Ireland for a thrash around some of the circuit of Ireland roads. Having been there before, and know some of the back roads to be somewhat challenging for mini sumps, I thought a sump guard would be a good idea. Happily I found a period guard

It also has a useful, non standard extension. Better safe than sorry.

The wee white beastie is back from being thrashed round Ireland. It would be nice to say there were no issues. The first was the weather, the wet variety. South West Ireland certainly knows how to dish out horizontal rain.

I guess the camera could not focus for all the rain drops!

The good stuff came dark and thick and pint sized.

The bad stuff, car issues. SU fuel pump - points end full of water, dizzy clamp worked loose, dizzy points heel wore out closing points twice, braking vibration and knocking traced to loosened back plate on front drums and loosened mounting screws for the wheel cylinders (on one cylinder they were missing completely).

So we got wet a lot fixing things but learnt a lot about the car. Remedial action will be taken including a tube of Loctite!

Did the car go well? Big 850 grin.

Hey, it's not an adventure without a few issues!

It sounds like all your's were fairly easily fixable.

Once everything has dried out all you will remember are the good times.

Your last photo proves that it didn't rain ALL the time, I do like the strategically placed roll of kitchen paper though :)

I don’t think I shall ever forget trying to work out why the engine had died at the top of a mountain in a storm. Character building to be true, but none the less wet and cold.
