Morris Cooper S - GYK 989C
I'm trying to find out if this Morris Cooper S still exists or if anyone has any later history for it.
It was owned and campaigned from new by Dan Margulies.
I've done the usual DVLA checks etc but that's not turned anything up.
Any help greatfully received.
Thanks
Nick

Thanks Steve, that's an interesting colour choice for a rally car.SMOKE GREY wrote:Fiesta yellow Did the 66 Monte and Lyon Charbionne rally as a Group 1 car.

Presumably new (or new to him) for 66 Monte (Margulies in a Cortina for 65 RAC) . No 114, London starter, Julian Chitty co-driving.
Margulies in Gp 2 1293 S for 66 RAC, No.140, presumably this car but not confirmed. (From Coupe des Alpes photos it was already Gp2 by then).
A few years later he was behind me on the Tour of Dean (in my Mini with about 50 bhp) in a 911. I think the ex-everybody one (Alan Mann, Doug Harris, John Bloxham etc.) not the Jock Russell car. I was moving to let him by when he decided to go the other side, so he enjoyed a short trip along the ditch...)

No idea about the car sadly.
But these survive.

That's incredible that these still survive from the car, thanks for sharing.Smithmaps wrote:No idea about the car sadly.

Can I ask how you come to have these ?

Re: Morris Cooper S - GYK 989C
I bought them from a well known Rally plate dealer, as I wanted a matching pair for my car.
Probably 20 years ago, at Goodwood FOS I recall.
I'm pleased you posted pictures of the car, as I hadn't seen them.

Hi Nick
I recognised the names Marg & Chitty from my youthful experience of reading Motoring News reports as I delivered papers!
Both competitors were quite active in road rallies in the Kent area so you might find out more from old Motoring News reports of rallies in 1966 onwards. I remember spectating on an event which passed though a ford on the edge of a housing estate in Ashford. The event started at the local Garage - Crouch's and must have been autumn/winter 1966/7.
BP publish a Rally Manual around that time and I think Chitty contributed text and advice to aspiring rallyists.
Maybe catch up on Sunday. I see if I can find the BP book and bring it with me.
Cliff

Re: Morris Cooper S - GYK 989C
Top road rallies in Kent effectively ended with Julian Chitty's round (he was Clerk of then Course) of the MN championship, the Harold Sharp Rally (that actually ran in early 67 but was part of the 66 MN championship) so earlier than 66 rather than later might be more productive to search.
Sure, road rallies continued in Kent long after that (I won one in 1970) and only finished about 10 years ago when the last SDMC "Kent" Rally was cancelled - but not any at MN level.
Margulies dealt in interesting cars from a London mews garage address (old race cars etc.).
