Is there a shorter version of the top engine steady than part number 21A1109, like 2A5874?
Ive got an 850 engine, but the steady bar seems to be about 1/2" too long. Ive tried tilting the engine but only seems to want to move about 5mm or so and won't go any further. I might be able to get more of a tilt if I loosen the exhaust, but before I go down that route I want to make sure I have the right length steady.
Cheers
Matt
Engine steady bar
Re: Engine steady bar
Automatic's and the later rover mpi minis had the engine further forward, So used a longer steady bar.

Re: Engine steady bar
What age is the car ? the early cars have a metal bar not cast. It looks like the modern front lower bar.
I havn't compared the lengths but would'nt expect it to be any longer than the standard early cast bar.
I will post a picture if you want.

actually, its was anything from about 1992 on that had the engine moved forwards (so spi as well)
the longer bar can be quickly identified as it has 'nobules' cast into it, where the normal one is smooth
the matching subframe had (like the auto) a 'bump forward' front cross member
please note, these are my own, individual sales, nothing whatsoever to do with my employer, minispares

Its on a '60. Im sure the welded type steady is the correct one, but is it any shorter than the cast (short type)?

Matty... I have just checked for you, they are both the same.
61/2 " centre to centre
61/2 " centre to centre

Re: Engine steady bar
Ok, thanks for that Iain. Looks like its exhaust off, to try and get more tilt on the engine.
