Smooth Hammerite Gold out of a spray can. Means it's easy to repaint if the rims go searching for curbs on the slippery roads. It's amazing what you can do on a budget to a £1200 MoT'd Mini. It's taken two years of scraping around and searching for bargains on Ebay to get to were it is today.coopertim wrote:What colour are the minilites Stu? Car looks fantastic!

Re: 2018 Mini Cooper Register Northumberland Borders Rally
Updated entry with ten days to go - Jonathan Swales and Dave Boyes have joined the fray and Lynsey Procter is confirmed as Thomas Robinson’s nav. We’re happy to help source other navs if anyone is in need of one and take late entries provided we’re given the heads up as we have to let the MSA know numbers in advance. F*$!?&g P*$!"y S&!?**g Rotor Arm.
The day started well with a bit of mist and cloud cover.
Car was looking good...
...with a fuel tank of fuel...
...it passed scrutineering fine and rally numbers in place.
Joined some of the other competitors for a nice cup of tea.
Then the drivers briefing...
...and off to the afternoon tests, which were an absolute hoot. See video link. After the three runs through the three tests we were top in our class.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nB5sDlBLVsA
Then back to the rest halt for some refreshment, get final instructions for the evening start, go to the start and get given route envelope. 30 seconds to go and the engine just dies. Crank, crank, crank! Not a thing. Bonnet up, nothing loose, crank, crank, still nothing. Right tools out, torches out, lead off plug, no spark. Change points and condensor, no spark. Plenty of sparks between point when ignition on. Plenty of sparks from coil lead with ignition on, just no spark getting to plug. Unfortunately we only had rotors for a 25d in the spares bag, but the car has an Aldon based on a 45d. With a 25d cap the spark was so weak the engine would barely run. So after an hour of messing about we gave up, got a lift to pick up my everyday car and went to the finish venue and enjoyed a coule of drinks, a good buffet and laughed it off.
Lesson learnt, when you change the distributor for a different type, don't forget to change the spares that you carry. 2 new Accu-Spark rotors have been ordered, and I am looking for a spare Aldon Red 45D.
PS Congrats to Graeme and Ali on winning.

Re: 2018 Mini Cooper Register Northumberland Borders Rally
Huge thanks to Niall and team for running a fantastic event.
The tests were lots of fun and in a great location
The night time roads were deserted and fast.
It really is a great event that caters for all abilities and it's surprising that there aren't more entries.
Well done to the winers.
Hope to do it again next year.
Luke

Brilliant event again! The test venue and tests were brilliant, every bit as good as the ones on the Rally of The Tests the week before. Me and Andy had a good laugh really enjoyed, we will return again. Be good to see some more cars out.

Says Colway on the side, but maybe there is a more presice answer to that question.
