I think that might be me!
I've read through numerous threads on this forum, and am amazed at the level of work that is carried out (especially this thread). I would say it is on par if not better than most body shops. I did a fair amount of bodywork on my car when I spent a summer in Oklahoma, learning how to work on it.
Now that I am back in the U.K, I do not have a garage or any area where I can work on my car. One day, when I have some disposable income I will have a workshop and many tools with which to do this. Currently, my aim is to get the car back on the road where I can finally enjoy it. It has been 3 years of ownership with a total of 1 driving hour.....
I am fairly young, so I do have a lot to learn from you knowledgeable people! P.S Sorry for hijacking this thread!

Hey, Brucie. You ain't hi-jacked anything. I'm old now, been in and out of Engineering - and Mini Coopers - most of my life. But the sheer quality of work, enthusiasm and help on this forum, especially this particular thread never fails to amaze me.

The flywheel modification by SMMC has enable me to complete the engine build.

I don't believe that there's been an engine in here for a long, long time.
How I hated connecting the driveshaft joints.
If I ever take the unit back out I'll be sorely tempted to convert it to Hardy Spicer joints.

SMMC converted my box into Hardys along with the Clutch Mod that was developed for me( i must ask Rod about a royalty) .. all works a treat ..

Well it’s finally ‘finished’.
A return to Minisport this week (where the bodywork and engine machining were completed) for a tune up.
Their rolling road wasn’t fully functional but we think it was producing about 70hp.

Great that another 997 gets back on the road.. yes a very nice turned out car & even i must admit your Fiesta Yellow does look good...something about the purity of the original mk1 Cooper simple design .. then somehow it got lost as years past.
Any idea how many 997,s are now on the Road .. whatever is that number we now have to add another 997

Beautiful car. This car does indeed show-off the simple, clean design of the early cars. Much nicer than the later variants IMHO.
Where do you get those nice Champion spark plug caps? I don't seem to be able to find anything but cheap molded rubber caps...

Superb result, great car.
I appreciate the strive to preserve originality, standard wheels with chrome trims look ace.
That said, I think your addition of an in-line fuel filter is commendable, I will probably follow your example.
The electrics and hoses look particularly good, I haven't seen a better example.

Gary, I use AES for those and a lot of electrical stuff. They sell the caps and the rubber covers.
I can recommend their reconditioned (original) regulators too.

Despite cleaning out the tank with a cleaning kit I'm, going to keep the filter on there for a few tank-fulls just in case.
I had to buy about a dozen of those wheel trims from eBay to find four that were (almost) undamaged!

Well, after such a long build I have hardly used the 997. At some point I’ll probably sell it but I was delighted to be able to use the car for a special occasion today as a friend’s daughter got married…

Just wondering if the Saenz conrods were an 'off the shelf' part? Where did you obtain them?
