Amazing car that I can across on Flickr a while ago, the attention to detail is fantastic and its one of the best prepared cars I've ever seen.
Still makes me feel a bit queasy seeing BMW stickers on an Austin but to be fair the job theyve done more than makes up for it.

Had a long chat with Friedrich Nohl head of this department. He was very proud of this car.

I don't think the ride height complies with FIA-regulations ;)

That is the point at the moment. They are still testing the car. Al suspension is adjustable at the moment. They will change it to fixed when they have the right settings. They still have some handling problems. I know they are testing one of these days again. They hired already a circuit in Germany.

I don't like the blue hoses on the engine. They should be black or something more period I think.

It's nice to see that BMW is getting more involved with the history of the classic mini. Also their archive is getting very comprehensive.

I still hope the invitation I got from them last year to have a peek at the department will go on. It was the first thing Friedrich said to me when I met him at the IMM again. Also head of the Archive was there and had very long chat with here as well. I showed her some of the dutch history of racing. The photo's where burning in her hand. She asked me if I like to sell them. Well not at this moment :D

I have seen this car earlier this year at the Techno Classica.
In my opinion, someone with a big wallet has bought lots of parts and fitted them.
But there are many details that are not well thought.
The float chambers of the carbs are not in the right position and so on....

I think the opposite, theyve paid for the name but how can it mean they can add a BMW sticker to the history?

Its a bit like a step father going through the family album and replacing the pictures of the previous husbands head with a pic of his own, you can't pretend you were there before you got there just because you bought a new wedding ring.

Well I don't agree as I am a step father. And didn't replace photo's as I think BMW doesn't. Yes they paid for the name. But getting involved in history means that you care I think. Okay BMW saw it a little late and forgot the aftermarket. And they said also at the last time I spoke to them at the IMM. But this can be a long duscussion. I don't care. I like the Goodwood mini from BMW.

BMW also recently added the Works Rally Replica 363 GYP to their growing historic classic Mini collection (which already includes the ex-works Mini JBL 493D) as built by Richard Skidmore and featured on the cover of Miniworld in January. Rauno Aaltonen is booked to drive the car on various future historic rallies.
Apparently there were no takers for 363 GYP when first offered for sale, so it then went to auction at H&H but failed to reach its reserve.....which is when BMW stepped in and bought the car for their classic Mini collection.

If they have handling problems... perhaps they should try fitting Mk2 steering arms? ;)
Cheers,
