Formula wood wheel - value? but want a LL boss.
Hello, just wondering what it is worth before advertising it on here (I really have no idea!), but TBH would swap it for a Les Leston boss to fit my Mk1 car.
Rims in nice condition, as are the polished spokes but a few extra holes drilled where the boss would have been. No boss for this rim.

Done a bit more... research on this and worked out a Les Leston boss is like the holy grail!! so ignore my silly reqest to swap!!
So will be selling the Formula rim (when I'm told what it's worth) and will continue the good work on maybe machining a boss from another maker to fit the LL.

4 hole LL bosses are available, but they are not cheap.
One of the Japanese catalogues list them, but I can't remember off hand which it is.
As far as a value for your Formula wheel, its hard to say without a pic or two.

Wowwwww! Thats looks nice! You will change the world!
Will you also make the bigger 6-screws boss after that? They are in great demand as well.

Re: Formula wood wheel - value? but want a LL boss.
Probably a stupid question, but...... why is there such a demand for LL wheel hubs???? Pretty much every old steering wheel I've seen has the hub attached. Why are there so many LL wheels without hubs????
Cheers, Ian

Re: Formula wood wheel - value? but want a LL boss.
In period LL wheels were A) Very popular but B) Expensive.
It was comparatively rare for a tight wad Mini owner to pay the high price of a LL wheel, so not that many Minis were fitted with them in period.
They were however fitted to lots of other more expensive cars, which eventually were scrapped or otherwise met their maker. As LL wheels were and still are very attractive & could be easily removed by undoing 4 screws, they always went very quickly from cars in scrap yards during the 70's & 80's, but usually without a boss as "who would want a Boss for a 1960's Ford Corsair, Vauxhall cresta or for that matter a MK1 Mini?
Because of this we now find a situation where there are literally hundreds of LL wheels without bosses, not just without Mini Bosses.

Re: Formula wood wheel - value? but want a LL boss.
Somewhere between £200 & £450
There doesn't seem to be an "average" price.
