Road to Saigon Rally - BBC TV Series

Post by mab01uk »

"Eight celebrities join one of the world’s toughest classic car endurance rallies for a four-part TV series – airing from August 19 at 9pm on BBC2. Noel Edmonds, Martin Kemp and Tinchy Stryder are among those attempting to cover more than 3000km in 12 days, behind the wheel of such classics as a classic Mini, Morris Minor, Hillman Imp and MGB GT. An easy feat perhaps on tarmac but very different on the Road to Saigon."

The duos and classic vehicles are:

Noel Edmonds and his wife Liz in an MGB GT.
Martin Kemp (Spandau Ballet/Eastenders) and wife Shirlie Kemp (Wham!) in a 1972 Mini
Chef Andi Oliver and her daughter, TV presenter Miquita Oliver a 1959 Morris Minor
Tinchy Stryder and Jordan Stephens (Rizzle Kicks) in a 1967 Hillman Imp.

To be crowned champions each pair must work as a team, one as navigator and the other as driver. They must follow strict rally rules without the aid of satellite navigation and maintain a mantra for mechanical sympathy.

What a cracking event. I am afraid that "Noel Edmonds, Martin Kemp and Tinchy Stryder" are enough to put me off though

I can only imagine Mr Stryder has a prior engagement before the planned end of the event?

Let's hope Noel Edmonds doesn't feel the need to drive the GT in the buff, as he famously claimed to have done in one of his GT40s

"Noel Edmonds has slammed the BBC for its 'deceptive' new rally show which featured celebrities who couldn't drive, five-star hotels and a wrap party in a suspected brothel."
BBC Two's Eight Go Rallying promised to show teams of celebrities racing across 2,500 miles throughThailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.
But television presenter Noel Edmonds, who has a background in rally racing, said the programme was 'fictitious' and 'dishonest'.
Martin Kemp and his wife Shirlie rolled their Mini in the first few days of filming and were given a hire car...
